To ask a familar Q, Best hosting currently?

That would be for a managed box. The Q has been asked before, but things change, like company being bought, people moving etc.

Interested in responses from people that had real problems that got solved. If you were lucky and never had a hack attack or much hotlinking, then many will look good.

Ive never really had an issue with HotLinking or any type of TRUE attack (that I know of) but wouldnt an htaccess file help protect your images for the most part? I use dream host and they seem to have everything in place or at least available to users as far as security and protection.

I have been using mojohost.com for about 5 years now. I've had a couple of problems with assholes trying to hack my server, autosubmitters gone nuts and all of them were handled quickly.

Normally htaccess solves it, but not always on wmv or mpg I hear. I tested my htaccess and found that it blocked me from setting up a hot link. Then again I'm not a hacker...

Could be I need to write a better htaccess file. Something I've been looking at. Nothing like getting a pro to do it for ya when you run into problems.

Have an account with dreamhost too. Put smaller sites there that don't expose video etc. to hot linking. A bit gun shy right now.

nothing bad to say about dreamhost! The price is good, very good for what you get. Support is via email though and there is something about 24/7 phone support I feel more secure about for some of my sites.

Could be that Dreamhost just plain has their act together on security, I don't really know how they'd hold up with a serious attack? I have heard a lot of good about there response to support issues though.
