Counter script on link lists

Hi, are you allowed to use for example Google Analytics (javascript) on your free sites that you submit to link lists? Or is javascript forbidden in general and your free site won't get accepted?

Greenguy 2008-01-23 09:22 PM

That all depends on the Link List (and is probably stated in the rules)

With me, it's no 3rd party counters :(

Why is that? What is the reason behind this? And do you only not allow it on the index.html page where your reciprocal is listed or do you forbid it on main and gallery pages too?

Java's not forbidden from Free Sites - just some of the uses of Java.

As far as the counters, the reason is that in the past, a lot of counters started to contain trojans & malware & auto-installers & whatnot. It's just easier to not allow any of them.

I'll allow Google Analytics. I think it's a kick ass tool, and I doubt that Google is going to be installing any crap. But I agree with Greenguy on the rest of them.

Me too, and for the same reason. I trust Google as long as Google trusts me.

There are link list scripts which have filters that'll either outright block your submission or give the reviewer a warning if certain script codes are found. It's a lot easier to deny all of that stuff rather than making a reviewer view source and figure out what it's being used for.

And before any server or code geeks comes in here with a pedantic rant: we all know that we're talking about java script and not Java. We're just lazy and like the sound of java. Every time someone says 'java' when they mean 'java script', one of you fuckers has to come and correct us all and whine about Java being a server-side programming code, blah, blah, blah. We get it. You're a geek. Go screw.

Greenie, does your script automatically check for "javascript"? Wouldn't it be nice to allow the usage for trusted submitters?

Not to be prick-ish, but you it's sort of poor etiquette to ask someone what their script does or does not do. No matter what he may allow trusted submitters to do, that really wouldn't have anything to do any other submitter.

All I am trying to do is figuring out the best way how to create my galleries / free sites without risking being banned or not getting accepted but maximizing utility of submissions. On my private galleries that I use on my own blogs, movieposts and on seo hub sites for example I use Google Analytics and I do not directly link to sponsor tours but use a click tracking script.
Obviously the best thing would be if I could use these already existing galleries to create my free sites but as javascript / 3rd party counters and linking to anything else but directly to the tours is probably forbidden I cannot use these galleries and I would have to create extra galleries then.
As I have very high quality galleries, all optimized for seo I will not just copy those galleries into different folders and remove GA and change the links because of double content etc.
I don't think asking what is forbidden on somebody's (linklist) script and how to avoid any trouble (and maximizing utility at the same time) has anything to do with poor etiquette. It is just an honest question.

I know most linklist owners are probably pretty annoyed by questions like mine as they have been asked the same questions more or less 100's of times in the past already and some might say "just follow exact each linklists' rules and you have no problems" but following each rule without trying to figure out a different way of solving a problem would just cause more workload and reduce my utility then.

I don't want to get into what my script does & what the reviewers do - but it's all based on the rules that are posted on my site.
