Going To The July XBiz Show In Vegas? What Seminars/Workshops Would You Like To See?

Seeing as I've spoken on a panel at The XBiz Summer Forum for the last few years, I recently hit up Tom Hymes from Xbiz to let him know that I was available again this year. Tom came back at me & said "You got it. Can you pitch some very targeted workshop ideas?"

The "workshop" angle is apparently what the forum wants to focus on this year. I attended some workshops in the past & basically, it's a 1-3 people teaching a group how to do a specific task. The one that sticks out for me was the workshop on Press Releases. They gave us 2 examples - one that was written properly & one that was written by a white kid with a flat brimmed baseball hat on sideways (that's how it read to me). They explained what was good in the 1st, what was bad in the 2nd. They gave us some resources to send the Press Release to & along with other valuable info. I'll be the 1st one to admit that I knew shit about writing up a proper Press Release when I walked in there, but this workshop changed that.

Anyway - back on topic :) I asked Tom if it was OK for me to get feedback fro those that plan to attend (as well as anyone else with a helpful idea) to post what you'd like to see a workshop on. Of course, he thought it was a great idea.

So, what would you, JoeBlow Webmaster, like to see a workshop on at this years XBiz Summer Forum?

I'm afraid I can't make it but some possible workshops might be:

1. Benefits of incorporating and when should I?
2. Is there any insurance a webmaster should consider and reasons for getting it and who provides it.
3. How to make money in porn.
4. How to move up from "small fry" status to "one of the big boys".
5. Should I start my own paysite - benefits and pitfalls.
6. How to get first page listings in Google.
7. How to get submits for Girls That Squirt and Hairy Pussy Links :D

I use a really antiquated blog program called pm manager, and for all my coding, I don't know how to do wordpress, or any other blog software.

I'd love to see a blog 101 with step by step set-up for someone setting up a blog on their own server as opposed to using thumblogger or one of those. |thumb

I agree about the Press Release one. It was very good and informative as to what and what not to send.

I think it might be helpful to have a "drilled" down workshops on several topics. such as: What is a Linklist. What is a Hub. What is a TGP. Because truthfully people who visit the "baby" board (and others) have no clue to what goes into to having and making a successful freesite and submitting to a variety of linklists. They don't know about hubs. Etc and more etc.

Also I think that a very good one would be the taking advantage of Web 2.0. Is it worth the time to update myspace/facebook/youtube or how to make using those sites successful even with the limited amount of skin to be sold.

and a big one that really should be addressed is "How to work Successfully From Home." such as how to schedule time, how to allocate resources etc. So many people (including me) get easily distracted and even though they have good intentions, get off track.

I think Holly is on to a good topic |thumb
Adult Webmastering From Home
Setting up the home office (the best advice I think I ever got from you was “buy a good chair”)
Record keeping
Focus
Balancing family and business
Software/Scripts
Avoiding burnout
and a big fat handout with a bunch of useful URL's and supporting documentation, because we love a good handout :D

I won't be able to confirm if I can make it until the end of May but if I do I would be more than happy to sit down with you and anyone else for a couple of hours and do an unofficial Blog 101 type of thing.

I clicked the link above for info on the Summer Forum and got a page with one zero on it. The XBiz link didn't have anything on their calendar. Where can I get info on the show?

I think that all of the above are great discussions and topics but not only for the seminars..how about starting a forum here on GG&J for them. I feel like tutorials and important Biz info could be very beneficial to those of the board old and new..

I'm thinking some talk about some guidelines for new webmasters.

Some Do's and Dont's.

They don't have the new pages up there yet, but I have to assume it'll be like the last two show. If you look in Google, you can see the old pages:
