Hate finding themes

Im in the process of converting one of my domains to a hub using wordpress.

Having a BITCH of a time trying to find a good dark theme to use. Wondering if it would have taken less time to build the site by hand |banghead|

I know how you feel, i'm still on the lookout for a good WP theme, i don't mind paying but trying to find someone to do one is like trying to get shit from a wooden horse.

I can relate. It takes me lots more time finding a theme than it does getting the site up and running. And after you find one, you usually have to tweak it a bit (or a lot), or worse you find it has some broken code after you've got it all set up.

I had bookmarked some links for themes
http://www.amsterdamn.org/free-themes-for-wordpress/
http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008...dpress-themes/
Adult themes - http://www.wordpress-themes.topeve.com/

maybe you can find a good one

Thanks all for the advise. It was more just to vent than anything, but it really chaps my ars when you find a good one, get it installed, tweak it, then find some rogue code that asks for money to unlock other things.

I don't mind paying at all, but when its advertised as FREE, they should mention that upfront.

Thanks helix for the links, found some interesting ones i'll be checking out :)

That does suck, you're right, it should be free as advertised. |sad|

I'm usually pretty picky about choosing skins and I'll end up either downloading one that has pieces that don't work properly or has a million things that I want to change around on it... It can get very frustrating.

I think I lucked out with picking one out for my newest blog though, thankfully. It's perfect really, all I had to change was the picture in the header. :D

it is definitely hard to find good free themes. I recently found out that if you want something unique and that looks good you have to pay.

I actually enjoy looking - but it really pisses me off to find out that one I just installed and customized is so "broke" that it would be a waste of time to fix it. There is an issue with wordpress.com stats and some themes - this one http://cunts.outlawsisters.com/ won't post stats - and I spent hours and hours matching the colors to her frickin lipstick and formating the text in a manner that I liked. I'll dig into the code one of these days and fix the stats thing but it pisses me off to have to do it.

I've gotten to the point that I

I enjoy hunting for new themes and getting ideas for ways to tweak my own sites. I don't think I've ever found a theme that didn't require major hacking, especially changing things like the width of the posting area to accommodate photos.

I like to give credit where credit is due, but after I've modded a theme dramatically it kind of bugs me that I need to leave up the original designer links. Some aren't bad, but some guys add 2 or 3 links at the bottom of every page. That's overkill, IMO.

I enjoy looking for theme's, though I probably spend too much time doing it. There are some very professional looking theme out there and they are getting more advanced, just takes some looking. I've never had one that needed money to work or unlock.

If your real good at CSS, it's not hard to create your own theme's, really just a matter of calling WP functions where needed/wanted.
