Porn and the economy
 

I don't know if the US is officially in a recession, but the economy is sucking by most measures. I was wondering how this would affect porn business. Is porn an expense that people cut out of their budget when times get tough, or is it more of a booze and cigarette type thing? What do you think?

Historically this biz has been pretty recession resistant.

Its normally luxury goods and services which suffer first. I don't think porn fits that category - its more an ingrained habit like cigarettes.

US government is releasing a Stimulus Package so that everyone can buy some porn.

the recession hasn't really even started yet, wait till gas is 5.00 a gallon and milk and bread are just as high, look how much a cartoon of eggs is now

and you can't compare the depression of the 30s when the vices did good with now, thats insane, there is way to much todo for free on the web and such

sure booze and cigs will still sell the same, because they dont give out free samples at the gas station 24/7

what it boils down to is that less people will buy porn when money is tight and there worried about paying there bills every month

there are way to many webmasters doing this vs the people buying porn, and that dont help either

I do believe that will help put some money in our pockets, and feel this summer will be good

A recession is two consecutive quarters of negative growth...so yes, we're in a recession...

I think we should all be prepared for harder times.

I'm trying to figure out how to suck my own cock - so I can still get a BJ when I can no longer afford to pay for it.

I'm thinking the sky is falling (again) and everyone should get out of this filthy business and get a real job while there are still a couple available.

i only hear talk of recession but it sounds like media-driven hype at this point.

I been thinking about this a lot and what I have come up with is

1) the www thats in front of your domain stands for world wide web
this is a global market so if the usa is in a recession it really wont affect how people buy porn in Germany etc etc etc

2) yes I feel this is like cigs and beer BUT we are credit card depandant and surfers are going to cutting back on their Credit card debt and use. A lot of people might end up cutting up cards

3) One thing I am certian about, over the years I have noticed when people stay home ( like right after 9/11) they buy more porn

You can sign up with a debit card so i can't see the "credit crunch" as they say having much effect, even if people do cut up their cards they'll more than likely turn to a debit card.

But many US debit cards cannot be processed by of-shore billing companies in order to reduce fraud. For example, CCBill Europe cannot process any debit cards from my bank - and that's a LOT of debit cards that won't result in sales (keeps me from buying porn though as I burned all but one of my credit cards last year. :D)

Ahh ok, i didn't know that, I know i've never had any problems online with mine here or abroad.

Fraud is another thing i think that's having an effect on sales especially in the UK and probably everywhere else.
They say so many people won't use cards online through fear of fraud and the banks and billing companies are not doing enough to tackle it.

When people want to save money they stay home. Instead of going to bar, trying to pick up women and spending $80 on drinks for one night that guy will probably stay home, spend $25 on porn and have it for a month.

During a recession Internet porn is a bargain. Dating becomes too expensive.

I'll let you all in on a little secret, February was my biggest money month since 2257 and March was almost as good.
Last night was my first real taste of recession, we ordered a combination pizza and were shocked by how stingy they were with the toppings.
