Just a strange Family Story :)

I know this is really a sad story but damn, when I heard it last night, I just burst out laughing. And, it was the first thing in a long time that really made me laugh.

My wife's neice (mind too I guess) recently broke up with her boyfriend. They have a baby together. She decided it was time for her to "find herself". So, she is giving her baby to my sister in law to do this finding. And to find herself, she is running off to persue her lifelong dream of skating in the Roller Derby. :)

I do love my family :)

Will she be wearing a Roller Girl Costume like in Boogie Nights?

Jim 2008-04-22 09:12 AM

I found out that she is of course starting out in the amateur division near us before she hits the big time. :) I have to go check it out when I can.

I do know, she received $6k for some settlement and bought 2 pair of pants for her child, $1k for a tattoo and the rest on roller gear. :)

That is sad and yep.....i would have laughed too, btw i do now! I can imaging you would find "yourself" in some spirituel thing, but "skating in the Roller Derby" i would never have thought about that one!|badidea|

Wow we must be related because it sounds like we have the same relatives.

I may be dating myself but I keep getting this mental image of Raquel Welch in Kansas City Bomber :)

Ya know... I never knew what Roller Derby was untill today... Found a good video explaining it on youtube tho. I won't comment on the decision of leaving your kid it tho...

She spent more on a tattoo then she did her child? I think the roller derby is a good place for her. If that doesn't work out maybe she could get a job in wrestling.

I don't know why, but I don't find it very funny. Maybe a bit sad. :(

RageCash-Ben 2008-04-22 08:14 PM

I think everyone has strange families Jim. Well I know mine is lol.

docholly 2008-04-23 11:51 AM

As soon I heard Roller Derby, I had a mental image of Peggy Hill and LouAnn from KOTH in their derby outfits.

hey we have one here in Vegas, maybe she'll go "On the road." |jester|

On the flip side of this, perhaps the kid is much better off with the gramma than she/he would be with the mom. Disposable children..who knew they'd be in fashion. |huh

StaceyJo 2008-04-25 10:05 AM

hahahah, I think it takes enough courage to do that... what a guts she have! hahahha
and mind you weird family? you are not even alone!

emac 2008-04-28 04:35 PM

I bet you have a happy family Jim.

papagmp 2008-04-29 01:19 AM

There are there strippers at a local club that do roller derby - one with so much ink that you can't find any bare skin (and trust me I've looked pretty close) and the other with two kids that were taken away from her. Sounds like your wife's niece will fit right in.

Sad to say it but I know WAY too many girls just like her - prime for the pickin.......:D

2 pair of pants. Thats some serious commitment.
Just watched some roller derby vids on youtube, looks kind of silly to me.

This is not really a family story, but I went to Catholic parochial school (big surprise?) and we had a nun who taught math to all students in 4th through 8th grade along with teaching all subjects to 7th grade. She was generally hated and feared by all students because she was big and mean (and wasn't all that good at math, but that's just a personal preference for math teachers who are good at math). She liked to give out punishments, including being made to stay after school, extra homework, public humiliation, and some physical things like rulers across the knuckles and kneeling on gravel.

Students either cowered or resisted, and some of us did all we could to ferment rebellion at every opportunity. Our class was that last 7th grade she taught, and all of us took a certain pride in believing that it was mostly due to our resistance efforts that in our graduation year she left the order and 'became' both a lesbian and a female professional wrestler. Amazing the things a 14-year-old mind will believe. Now, of course, I realize she was probably born a wrestler.

:)

hehe yup that is funny, I mean it must have been hard for her to choose between her baby and roller skates ?
That is a choice I never wanna make myself :D

I hope she is very happy |loony| |loony|
