I'm knackered - how many hours do you work?

Hi All,

I'm not exactly a newbie, but new to posting on this board and was curious as to how many hours people work to make a living peddling porn.

A year ago I gave up my job as an IT technician to do porn full time |crazy| - mainly 'cos I could work from home and spend more time with my wife and young daughter.

I've been submitting freesites since then, as well as building other domains and am making money, but I work from 8.00am til 5.00pm, stop for dinner and relax for a bit, then work from 10:00pm til 1:00am. I do this 6 days a week - so that's 72 hours a week!|yawn|

Anyway, am I the only idiot that works like this? How many hours everyone else puts in to earn a crust.

KG Gary 2008-05-07 09:07 AM

About the same as you in terms of hours, but much more fragmented.
|loony|

Juggling family with work is the hardest thing for me. I often wonder how much more I could get done in less time without so many family distractions, and how much time I use in a day just doing all the little family things.
Still, I chose to work at home, and I love what I do.
:)

Greenguy 2008-05-07 09:23 AM

I've worked like that in the past - especially when I 1st quit my "real" job or I'm working on a big project. My normal schedule is about 10 hours a day Mom-Fri & 2-3 hours on Sat & Sun.

These days, with my |loony| I'm lucky to work 4 hours on a good day.

dannyboy 2008-05-07 09:25 AM

Families are definitely a distraction - I seem to get almost as much done between 10:00pm and 1:00am as I do during the rest of the day, just because everyone's asleep! No holding the baby for 10 minutes while the mrs hangs out some washing etc.

But I have to admit I haven't regretted giving up my job as I do spend more time with my family than I would have been able to.

And when I'm not with them, I'm building websites, listening to knac.com and looking at boobs |headbang| - gotta be better than being stuck in an office looking after Cisco kit.

Oh! Families suck ass :D I used to love waking up at 5 or 6 AM & then working a couple of hours in peace before everyone got up.

The worst part about working from home is that you're home. Everyone assumes you can drop whatever you're doing & give them a ride or lend a hand around the house or answer some dumb question or jump in the sack with them for some "afternoon delight"....well, that part is ok :)

I'm sure my parents think that my job just involves casually sitting in front of the computer for 10 minutes at some point during the day and the rest of the time I'm available to figure out why they can't send an email to my aunty or print off a nice photo they took at the weekend.

I'll have to remind my wife about the 'other' benefits of working from home, as far as I can remember, afternoon delight is a piece of chocolate cake at 3 o'clock.

That is probably my most productive time. Since I got my laptop, I love to work in the living room before everyone gets up. When wife and daugher get up they assume I'm fucking around on the Internet...(and they're not always wrong...)

My day job gets 45-50 hours/week of my time, so I do porn on a part-time basis (my goal is for that to change)...it's not unusual for me to work 40 hours on the weekend, and work 3-5 hours before and after work during the week making my part time hours more than my full time. If I ever do this full time I can see me working 12 hours a day 6-7 days a week easily...it's just something that I am driven to do.

SheepGuy 2008-05-07 03:02 PM

I usually get up around 1 p.m., work until 4, go to the pub, eat dinner and hang out with the wife until 8 or so, then work until about 4:30 a.m.
So just under 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. On the day I decide to take off I usually work about 5 hours. I used to work much harder on less sleep but I guess I'm getting older |yawn|
I like it though, I doubt I could handle a real job anymore, I never did like bosses much.

papagmp 2008-05-07 03:08 PM

I work 6 to 20 hours a day - 7 days a week. I hit the computer as soon as I get out of bead (no regular time) then work till I drop. The I start over the next day. I do take a bit of time to play in my garden and or soak in the hot tub. Twang fucked that up for today by dumping a bottle of dish soap in the tub last night......... Maybe I'll just kill her.

that's why I had to make an office 30min from my home so i can actually work. I guess now, again, I have a steady day job from 9h-17h with more than few coffee breaks :D
oh ... and I have and 2-3housr of work late at night ... so it's 9-10h for me, probably but hey I get to give myself days off whenever I want and I get to choose my holiday days :D

sue-fl 2008-05-08 10:55 AM

I agree with working around family and friends, it's not easy! I still have some that will call me and I'll tell them I'm working. I hate it when they say "oh I keep forgetting you work" |loony|

RedCherry 2008-05-08 11:32 AM

My work hours vary widely. I work at least 4 - 5 hours a day 7 days a week on porn, but sometimes that is as high as 10 or 12 when I'm building a new AVS site.

But I also have non-adult clients I do work for too that adds to the hours, A soap business That I also do occassionally, plus tend a greenhouse and garden that is pretty large this year that I plan on selling some of the produce at the local farmers market.

It is all work, just work at different things to bring money in the door. But I do spend more hours on porn then anything else each day.

My most productive time is also first thing in the morning. I tend to go to be early, MadHatter (my hubby) stays up late. So I get more work done in the morning on porn (when he isn't distracting me) and vice-versa for him.

RedCherry 2008-05-08 11:40 AM

I should also say in that I'm lucky that the porn work is split between two of us. On my least hours days I only spend 4 - 5, MadHatter spends about the same amount of time. I build galleries, freesites, AVS sites, re-design, find sponsors for the LLs and TGPs and he does all the checking of our LLs and TGPs, and all my video editing. So it is a great partnership where each of us does our own thing. :D

Welcome to the board by the way. |thumb

I agree.

I work a day job 40hrs and do the biz at nights and weekends. I don't want to think about how many hours it would be |loony|

LeRoy 2008-05-08 01:52 PM

Stay at home dad here. I usually count the hours I don't work out the day. Some days 4 or 5 hour . Along with my duties around the house it comes to 15 -20 hour days. I am adding my house work too because I want the credit.

Funny thing I was taking to my wife about "back in the day" where mothers were given little or no credit for being the homemaker.

Keeping the house clean and kid happy is hard friggin work. So yah thats a fulltime job in itself.

ok babies crying gotta feed her :)

100% the same here. There are very nice articles online about how to fine tune this. :) Maybe even a wiki how-to. ;)

Don’t Let Your Family Affect Your Work

7 Essential Tips to Make 2008 Your Best Year Ever

I wake up at 6:30 AM, and in a very fragmented way I work until around 21:30-22:00 PM. I usually take a walk in the afternoon with my gf and our daughter, smoke a little splif, than at home I help with some housework and get back to work when I am satisfied with the results.

I hope with time I can reduce working hours a day to the level Greenie mentioned, luckily here in Hungary I can make a decent living on 1300-1800 USD net profit a month which is not so hard to make I HOPE :)

Peace

I find myself working when I'm not working, too. I mean my mind is working on a new design or new idea when I'm supposed to be on vacation or cutting grass. Multitasking...(?)

I find myself working when I'm sleeping - woke up the other morning with my pillow stuck to my face and I was pretty sure I dreamed about working with Jayda.......:D

Redcheerry you sound insanely busy! I work about 6-8 hours a day depending on how much I have on my plate. Sometimes later at night too just to get stuff done. I have given up a few of my hobbies just to have more free time to spend with family

ArtWilliams 2008-05-09 01:50 AM

Like D2222, I am a stay at home dad. My first obligation is to my wife and kids. Wifey makes good money so I can't complain. I spend 2-6 hours a day. My status might be considered that of a permanent part-timer and my bank account reflects my half assed effort! I would love to spend 10-12 hours a day if I could.

I also miss Useless Warrior's self-deprecating humour. I guess that would be humor in Dirty Undies in upstate NY.
