How Often Do You Use A Sponsor's Campaign Feature
Just wondering. I don't use it. I figure I should when I make my blog posts so I can better figure out where I get my meager number of sales.
|
Every single outbound link so that I know which project is sending the most traffic and which links are actually converting the best. In my experience they are never the same.
I would think this is a must if you have multiple sources of traffic. |
Not as often as I should.

I use it every time. It is a pretty much a must in the PPC world.
I really, really, really, really hate NATs style campaign tracking though. It is way to much trouble to prebuild the tracking code ahead of time, and I also can't create tracking codes on the fly. |
I used to never use them for two reasons: Lazyness and once in a while I'd get a linkcode in the SE index as a search result, seemingly by fluke. So I always using just the basic link codes without changing them from site to site (and hoping to get more of those flukes.) But getting those linkcodes in the SEs by accident is not that important anymore. I'd rather know where the sales are coming from. I started using campaign codes a while ago for all new projects and modified old ones to use their own campaigns. Now I can study the flow of traffic better and decide which projects should get special priority (in other words, which site is sending the best convertible traffic.)

Another plus is sometimes a referring URL is unknown, like when someone bookmarks a sponsor site and goes back to it later. If you use a campaign code, and sort sales by campaign, it might show you which campaign the sale belonged to. So if the campaign stats show that the sale belonged to campaign A, and you use campaign A solely at site XYZ, then there's a good chance the sale came from your site XYZ.

I'd like to use more campaign codes, but the vast majorty of the sites I promote use CCBill. I had heard that a campaign code option was going to be added to CCBill affiliate admin for release last Summer/Fall, but that and most of the other upgrades mentioned have yet to appear.
|
I also use them all the time. I use a new one for every different link I put out there wether it be gallery, 404, blog, forum, etc. I think its a really good habit to get into. You can really track your sales better.
|
I usually forget about the campaign feature most sponsors offer but I'm trying to get better about using them lately. My traffic is scattered all over the place and I'm starting to see that it's nice to be able to track a campaign to see where sales are coming from.

Personally I never use campaign tracking on the sponsors end. I do a heck of a lot of tracking on my end, but never wanted to use the sponsors campaign tracking if its available. I just have a bad feelings about sharing that sort of information, but thats just me.

I have in the past, but back then, some stats programs had the totals in different areas & when I went to do my stats, it caused more work. I assume that pesky little problem is fixed now :)
But I do tend to just add the link to the LOR admin & then, anytime I need a link code, I go grab it from my admin, which skips the steps of going to the sponsor & grabbing the code. I did also just get the bright idea that EVERY link code could be an include file, this way changing them meant changing a text tile - but that's a brainfart for another day/conversation :D |
I use it for every sponsor that has them, but like Toby, the vast majority of my sponsors don't have them....mainly my AVS sites. I wish I could program something that would show my clicks on my AVS sites, but I don't think there would be any way to pass the info to the AVS. |huh

Once I get more traffic lanes open I will..as its a tool that is valuable..as Preacher said to find out what efforts are doing best.
