FCC wants free (filtered) broadband service

So give everybody free broadband internet, and they will filter it. Not to mention owning all the information that will be stored.|bullshit|

I had a similar post a few months back about the Canadian government supplying internet access and possibly filtering it.

For what? We asked. "To protect children," came the reply.|confused|
The Federal Communications Commission is looking for a bidder to provide free broadband service.... Half the United States population must be able to access it after four years, and 95% by the time the license comes up for renewal.

There will be one more requirement for the service. A spokesperson for the Commission has told Ars that the FCC wants it to include "content filters."

I wonder if you don't use the government internet will you be placed on a special list.|club|

They seem to be backing off for now.

FCC free wireless scheme trapped in lobby limbo
Martin has delayed the June 12 vote because various free speech advocates complained about the content filters and various cell phone operators complained about interference. There are other complaints as well.
