I'm seriously considering not watching The Olympics

I was reading an article about how the Amnesty International website was being blocked to the media even after being told that the China gov't would not be censoring any websites, but today they fessed up:

IOC admits to deal with China on censorship

I know that this is a drop in the bucket when you consider all the shit that China does, but the lie about not censoring websites is what might have pushed me over the edge.

I love watching The Olympics, and I was really excited that Universal HD is showing a ton of events (even if I hate NBC) but I'm pissed off now & this would not be the 1st time I didn't watch something I wanted to watch because of my anger |angry|

Anyone else have a problem with the Olympics as far as them being in China? Not going to watch because of it?

terry 2008-07-30 08:42 AM

I am not watching them. I dont think China is ready and I have a bad feeling something is gonna happen. I really hope there are no terrorist attacks or that nothing bad happens so please dont get me wrong.

I read yesterday that they are taking 90% of vehicles off the road just for the Olympics.. is that possible?

Anyway, I could vent all day about this but I wont haha. Im not watching it but I do have a feeling I will be hearing about it in the news.

MrMaryLou 2008-07-30 08:46 AM

I have seen a few shows about China in the last few weeks. You can just tell they are letting you see what they want you to see. :( I will not be watching this time. :(

While I do agree with all of you, I will still catch bits and pieces here and there.

ArtWilliams 2008-07-30 09:11 AM

I won't watch because it is more or less a series of rigged contest. The winners are the people who are the best at masking their performance enhancing drugs and not the best natural athletes. The "my country has more medals then your country" thing is lame too.

Fonz 2008-07-30 09:13 AM

Since most of the activity will be going on in the middle of the night for me I won't be watching it anyway I think.

Those crafty Chinese have everything!!

I think I will still watch it, although of course the whole "China" thing is lame as hell (to put it incredibly mildly!)

JustRobert 2008-07-30 11:32 AM

I have a small issue with China, but that is because they own most of our debt in this country. I joke with friends that they are going to reposess Florida or California when we miss a payment :D

I will still watch the Olympics. BMX (bicycle racing on dirt with jumps) has been added this year to help attract a younger crowd, so I want to see that and of course that Phelps guy.

Will you be able to see any live events in America? The past few times that I've watched the Olympics everything that was showed was a replay of America winning a medal. Nothing live :(

I'm happy to watch American athletes winning but it just felt like I was watching professional wrestling.

WildHoney 2008-07-30 12:39 PM

I'll be watching. Supporting the athletes. Putting aside my disgust at world issues, embracing the *idea* of world peace though I am pretty certain that is a concept *I'll* never live to see (nor my great, great, great, great, great grandkids, if I have any). Don'tcha just love newbies who participate in Board politic threads? *w*

I'm boycotting.

Berlin, 1936. |sad|

By the way, is there a *list* of what to do, read, set up, etc for creating a successful, profitable adult web site? There is so much here to read, I don't know where to start, and would prefer to start at the beginning.

I think you know that I'm a HUGE sports fan (ha!), but I've been disgusted with the Chinese government since they invaded Tibet - and I wasn't even born yet.

HEY RICE DICKS - FREE TIBET!!!

Anyway, with all that smog, you probably won't be able see the athletes through the haze.

Just keep reading. It's a living, breathing business. The time it would take to write a truly comprehensive how-to is longer then the time it takes for something to change, unfortunately.

If ping pong is on I'm watching it regardless of the politics. I've never understood why ping pong isn't up there with the major sports like lacrosse and archery |huh

Cleo 2008-07-30 02:36 PM

My house is a sports free zone.

stuveltje 2008-07-30 02:55 PM

i am not gonna watch the olympics, china has bin in the news alot here lately and yes i am aware of the things which are happening there.
Last night hubby and i where watching a documentaire about north korea, its insane how things are going there , all in controle of a dictator, so it happend today that hubby and me started to talk about the north korea issue and about human rights and we ended at the country china. We all can say , what do we care, but i am sure there are enough people who can get angry about how things are controlled in some countries and thats something i totally not agree with. So no olympics here in "My" house (stu<-- watching if hubby didnt see her saying "HER" house:D)
Btw a big part of holland was already getting nuts because our prime minister "bak Ellende" (thats not his real name but thats the way we dutchies name him, it means "big trouble") went to china to show their respects for the olympics shit, while the Tibet thing was going on, most of european prime ministers refused to go and ofcourse (sometimes i am so ashamed for my country) our "harry potter" went there ( harry potter because he looks like an harry potter when older age:D)

T Pat 2008-07-30 03:16 PM

I'm sure His Holiness the Dalai Lama would approve of us all boycotting the Olimpics|couch|

SykkBoy 2008-07-30 05:13 PM

I have mixed emotions about it...
I love that there will be a bunch of Universal HD programming...but I'm more of a Winter Olympics fan anyways...

I have some real issues with China getting the games...hey, why not go ahead and have them in Iraq next time? Maybe Iran?

And so it begins...

American at Olympics stabbed to death

BEIJING, China (CNN) -- A Chinese attacker stabbed two Americans, killing the man and wounding the woman, who were attending the Olympic Games on Saturday, according to the U.S. Olympic Committee.

The man also injured a female Chinese tour guide before leaping to his death around noon from the second floor of the Drum Tower, a popular Beijing tourist site, the official Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.

I watched Part of the Tivo'd version of the opening last night.. got to the Iran/Iraq section of the parade of countries.. and I loved the "revisionist" history tho I think if American can omit parts of their slaughter of Natives, I guess the Chinese can skip ahead like 2K years including the Mao years.

I lost my lunch to see all the "Bushes" sitting there... and applauding when Iraq was announced. "Yeah..Iraq.. we're RICH again, Mommy, and I did what Daddy couldn't do!! Aren't you proud of me Mommy, aren't you???"..
