Damn Tivo or damn...
Me for being so lazy, you think I would have done at least 1 of 2 things...
1) Hooked Tivo up to the internet or 2) Ran a phone line to Tivo that was permanent. Did I do either? Nope, why? Because Im Lazy, or burnt our from working a zillion hours a day, not really sure. What happens now? I cant tape anything because Tivo has to "Reset" with upgrades at 2am. GRRRRRRRRRR |angry| |angry| |angry| |
Never, ever, under any circumstance, badmouth TiVo :D
Bad John, BAD! |
Yes your right, I should have controlled myself, just wish the little fucker would have woken me up if it was having a problem.
|
I thought when it was running out of programming, it did tell you via that little email icon?
I only had it happen once because the phone cord was unplugged, but I do remember it telling me there was only 6 days worth of programming instead of the usual 14 (or whatever it is) BTW - I'm thinking of getting 2 more for the house, bringing our total to 5 :D |
What's a television?
|
TIVO sucks
I did see a cool new Denon server that handles up to 4 TVs at the CES in Vegas. You can be watching a tv show on one tv live and have it paused in another room. All from one machine. Of course they say it will come out with a price of just over 5k. |
|
TiVo does not suck & you know it - I'll admit that your DVR Receiver has a lot more bells & whistles than mine, but the only real benefit is recording 2 shows at once (and even you told me many times that it fucked that up)
Don't throw in your On Demand crap - it doesn't appy here :D |
ahhhh, on demand.
The ability to watch any HBO, Cinemax, Showtime or any other premium TV network show at anytime I want. They have now included PPVs. And you are right...my DVR did fuck up. The Hard Drive failed. But you know what I did? I took it to the cable company and they gave me a new one :) Do that with TIVO. |
...and you'll remember that I told you that Amp had the 20 hour TiVo, opened it up, saw what kind of Hard Drive it had, went out & bought a bigger one & eneded up with 80 hours :)
And I told you, you're little On Demand DOES NOT APPLY to this thread :D |
We are weeks away from hot swappable hard drives. That will be nice to record something and take it to another tv and watch it. But, I'm sure TIVO is not that far behind.
|
I built my own "TIVO" it only cost me $54.99 (+$2100 for the PC) :) Winfast TV XP tuner, I have yet to fill up my 320 GBs of space on my system.

Wow I like seeing you guys do a little battle over this stuff.
Yes Greenguy it warned me, but who pays attention to warnings? I expected Tivo to wake me up in the middle of the night (you know a little shove or tap on the shoulder) before disaster struck. But all is well now it had it's way and restarted at 2:08am. Personally I hate the cable company so giving them extra money isnt something I shale do easily. I would rather pay an extra $500 for Tivo, plus common now Jim it's TIVO.... TIVO.... TIVO.... Plus the DVR's out by me arent that great yet, Nate & Eric have one and they say going the Tivo route was better (well maybe Nate doesnt say it because he doesnt care, he's low maintenance and doesnt analyze EVERYTHING to the bone like Eric). |
My problem with the cable company (aside from the fact that their DVR sucks moose balls compared to Jim's or TiVo) is that in order to get all the hi-def channels for my plasma TV, I have to use the DVR/Receiver on it. I already have TiVo hooked up, so the DVR function is useless. The DVR is currently in my office, mostly so I can record a few things to watch while I work. But now, I have to move it upstairs to the plasma TV & then get a new TiVo if I want to record anything downstairs.
Plus, my step-daughter has our old TiVo so my step-son (aka The Boy) has been bitching that he wants one as well. So, that means 2 new TiVo's will probably be purchased today :) |
Greenie, TIVO won't record your Hi-Def channels?
|
I haven;t tried that yet, but the old cable box won't even display the hi-def channels, so I have to use the new one in the living room which means I have no recoring or pausing down in the office, which means a new TiVo is in order :)
I went to Circuit City yesterday & it was fucking packed with people - so I went to Pizza Hut instead :) Gonna pre-order the TiVo's today so I can just run in & pick them up. |
I can record Hi-Def channels but there really isn't any reason to :)
|
Have no fear......
The Second TIVO is here :) Thats right I added another one to the family tonight ;) Yippie! hey GG do you have the Home Media Option? if so do you have your Tivo's networked together? If so what did you use to do it, and do you have to purchase the Home Media Option for each Tivo seperatley? |
My house is not wired that well, so I didn't even bother trying to hook up the internet crap with TiVo.
