Some people say it is but i don't think it's the case anymore, in the google guidelines the most important thing is quality and relelvance, that also applies to who you link to and who links to you aswell.

It is helpful to have a good PR but it is not the most important thing at least, that's my opinion. Whatever you do, keep your site updated regularly with quality and relevant contents to the niche you promote. When trading traffic or links, it is recommended that you trade with sites relevant to the niche of your site.

We have a small troubles with the links... german sites cant link us, because we have not censured content, US sites kick us out, because we have not english content...

It might pay you to get an english translation of your site(s) and have both. :)

I don't have a clue about the legal issues regarding porn in Germany, but is attempting to target German surfers from a site outside Germany a smart move?

If it were as easy as just hosting the site elsewhere, wouldn't other people be doing it already?

If the rules over there are so strict, you'd think that if the German government were to become aware of your site, they could just block it from all German traffic.

If I'm wrong, please disregard, I'm just thinking out loud...

Our content is not censored and if a german webmaster would only link to our site, he would be penalted with a few thousand euros... No joke...

People are doing it already, but owner must be a foreign company...

This already happend to somebody, to youporn, some internet provider was forcet by court to block their IP, to all his users. We are not youporn, so what could happend to us, that ggggle whould not show the page in search results in germany... This happends quite offten...
ggggle is forced by german laws not to show ill*gal results...
Thats the reason, why we are looking outside of germany...
We are the british company and the servers hosted in US... |loony|

I don't know, but it seems to me that you're treading in some dangerous waters.

I don't think this would be my business plan, but good luck anyway, hope it works out for you.

Lots of automated link traders still regard PR as something to use as a metric, so I would say it is important, however the way to get good PR is pretty much using the same methods as you would to get high on google, so it goes hand in hand!
