Anybody used pimpwork?

I used to see general sites for this sort of thing-- like getafreelancer.com -- but too many of the people have no idea about adult work.

But does pimpwork actually work? Is it packed full of Indian programmers who tell you how good their C++ is when you asked for link development. :)

Not packed full of Indians yet, the Ukranians have moved in already though from the looks of it.

we aren't Indians, but we post there from time to time :)

So far though the projects that have been offered have all been slightly bunk, the people that want work done in general want to pay a little to receive a lot. Unfortunately no way to talk some sense into them and getting them to realise that offering 300 bucks for a month's work isn't something that will get me all fired up :D

It's a new site and nobody really knows about it. But the guy is working hard to promote it. I thinks those sites take a few years or so.. till it becomes something.

Mmhmm, there was a project on there that I contacted the guy about (the one that wanted the project done), and it basically consisted of "make me a youtube clone, you do all the work, i won't tell you what i want, i expect you to miracle it together to my exacting specifications that i won't be giving you" -- to the tune of $1000.

Now, usually speaking, $1000 gets you, give or take, about 10 of my hours. Let's be generous and say I'll give you 2 man days for a grand (16 hours total).

Now I spend at least a day trying to miracle together whatever it is this guy has in mind, followed by 1 day of shoddy implementation because it's going to take more than a day to build. Then I'll get stiffed on the payment because I didn't build what the guy had in mind, even though he flat out refused to give me specs.

No thanks. Pricetags for jobs like that start at 5 grand.

So yeah, the idea of that site is fine, just that if you're not in a position to charge $10/hr and survive, it's not much use to find jobs. Getting stuff done, not so much either. You'll get it cheap but in the end you get what you pay for, shoddy code.

All those sites are basically shit, but I believe Guru.com may be one of the best. I'd stay away from them though, all of them.
