Dynamic thumbs
 

The title makes it sound worse than it is... I am generating thumbs from the full size pics. They are the same every time, they are linked to the full size images. just the actual existence is all that changes. here is a page with the script in place, let me know if this is legit to submit.. hehe that wasn't supposed to rhyme |pokefun|

Why would you want to do this? Seems like a horrible abuse of server resources to deliver images via PHP on every page load.

it really has not affected my resources, it is almost parallel to delivering actual images from the server, only it does not require the space the images would need.

I'm more curious about what that means than the thread's topic. :)

Storage is so cheap it doesn't seem like a fair trade to me.

It might be better to set up a global directory accessible by all your domains on a single host. I haven't done that myself, but some people here do that for their content.

i guess the purpose of the script was to prevent cropping, it really just comes down to laziness.. lol

I'd use modRewrite in htaccess to internally point the URL to the PHP file, if the thumb doesn't already exist. The PHP file would then save the thumb in it's named space.

This works silently (no permission from LL owners needed), easily, and only requires PHP on the first load.

I think owner will see only html text :) How can he suspected you of some cheating? :) The only thing you need is that php will work in .html file... .htaccess will help you :)

Nope. I'm not one to copy and paste URLs into my browser. Maybe I should write a script to do that for me... :D

But I still don't understand your spam comment. I removed the possibility of me being a total idiot by asking the folks in the chat room last night and they didn't get it either, though there is a possibility that we are all idiots. That has happened before.

Maybe you should check your layout in different screen sizes.

I dont like to post URL's that convert to links, i feel like im spamming the board. maybe it's just me. not that it matters i guess, search engines will see still see the text.

this is just a demo page, i normally build my page to fit 800x600, I appreciate the heads up though! ;)

lol, i just yanked a script online an modified it to do what i needed, this is why it is a PHP script. If it works out, It will be crafted into a perfect perl script. like i said before, this is just a demo page i was experimenting with, this is also why it is tableless and xhtml.
