FriendFinder has no friends on Wall Street; Needs IPO to stay afloat

Seems that the parent of AFF may go under! |bananna|

It says that they are looking for an IPO (stock sale) to pay off the acquisition of AdultFriendFinder. According to the details, if the IPO fails then they will be in default of their loans. The author thinks it is highly unlikely that enough people will buy in especially during these hard times.

Just thought you might want to know.

Erotic stocks are not the best investment imho. Look at Playboy or Beate Uhse. Both stocks have taken a beating over many years.

To me, filing an IPO in this vicious bear market sounds like a very desperate move. I found this quote from XBiz interesting. According to XBiz, AFF has 110,000 affiliates. IMO, if AFF can't pay their creditors and then default on loans, it seems likely they won't pay affiliates either. I wonder how many affiliates will end up going down with AFF.

FriendFinder Swallows Penthouse, Files $460M IPO

Quote:

FriendFinder’s filing offered several gems of information, including that the company depends on affiliates greatly to send traffic.

“As of Sept. 30, we had more than 110,000 participants in our marketing affiliate program from which we derive a substantial portion of our new members and approximately 44 percent of our revenue,” the company said. “For the nine months ended Sept. 30, we made payments to marketing affiliates of over $46.4 million.”

More than a few, and I hope a number of illegal tube sites are among them.

Combined with the certain reduction in PPS payouts due to the tigher cross sale rules (assuming Visa follows MC's lead) and it's looking bleak for many who have built their affiliate income streams primarily based on either or both.

WHy would anyone invest in a IPO that's already a sinking ship?

Take your pick.

1) Some people turn a blind eye to greed.
2) Some people believe in the bigger fool theory that someone else is more stupid and will buy their stock at a higher price.
3) Some people have been brainwashed into thinking all IPOs make money.
4) Some people foolishly do anything their brokers tell them, without knowing some of these brokers will sell any garbage to generate a commission.

Seriously, wtf? IPO? This isn't 1998! It takes some serious cash to prepare for an IPO so good luck to them- But it's lame to say the least-

btw- since I've been around(obviously, not long) I have been very suspicious of the adult friend finder type sites.... AFF isn't the only one but whenever I have tested the product, I've not been impressed. Plus all the free tube sites stealing from the world post AFF ads on their sites so for that reason alone, I hope they all fail- Sorry if I sound a bit mean. Just my mood right now:)
