How to convert a wmv to flash, flv

Please Can some one tell me an easy way to convert a wmv file to an flv file. what software do you use ??

tickler 2009-02-03 05:10 PM

SuperMedia

...or...

Import the file into FLASH and save as FLV or compile as SWF

I played around with several and ended getting EasyFLV Batch Converter. Works great, except it does not remember the output folder, which can be annoying.

Beaver Bob 2009-02-03 05:24 PM

ffmpeg on the server side usually works great

Ms Naughty 2009-02-03 06:22 PM

I use EasyFLV too. And yeah, isn't that a bitch that it won't remember that folder? I should contact the software guy and demand an upgrade.

If you have Flash - use Flash video encoder.

If not - there are a few free options out there... I'll do a search later

Mateusz 2009-02-03 07:08 PM

I'm using Total Video Converter

ArtWilliams 2009-02-03 07:36 PM

I was going to say ffmpeg too -- it rocks -- but you need Linux on your desktop or a server.

There is a nice GUI version for the Mac.

The program I use to make h.264 vids also does flv and a bunch of other formats but it is overkill if all you need is to convert to Flash vids.

phatbiatch 2009-02-03 11:14 PM

avs media converts to all formats and it's inexpensive

kbbq 2009-02-06 01:28 PM

http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

uses the FFMPEG for windows

supports FLV and h.264 ( I suggest encoding into h.264 )

Adobe Media Encoder CS4 is part of Flash Professional CS4.

I encode video everyday and do patches. This is simply the way to go and you also need a powerful machine.

My machine uses the i7 920 overclocked.

AndyS 2009-02-07 08:02 AM

If you don't mind spending the money then Adobe Media Encoder CS4 is the only way to go in my opinion.

I've used Moyea, they have a range of products ranging from server side tools to different converting tools

HowlingWulf 2009-02-13 10:23 AM

I'm looking at these tools, looking for a way to split the input video into X number of segments. Anyway to do that with ffmpeg (so many options) or Super? I'm not seeing it and want to be sure.

I love Adobe products and use them every day but for encoding you may want to check Sorenson Squeeze, there is a version for encoding to flash only which is 200$.
If you need only simple converting without all the advanced options check On2 Flix, it's only 40$

HowlingWulf for splitting "old" formats I use Boilsoft Video Splitter, for FLV check Moica (wont work with h.264 tho)

Anyone need a hand with any of that don't hesitate do hit me up on icq ;)

Tommy 2009-02-14 08:29 PM

ya know.... it seems like the FLV files are bigger in file size then the WMV i converted and the quality isnt as good

I wanna thank everyone for their suggestions .. this has turned into a great thread

hey Tommy why don't you shoot me message on icq tomorow so I can take a look at your files. Maybe I can help you with compression ?!

Jel 2009-02-16 01:15 AM

I found that with a couple also Tommy, but I tried on2 Flix - which I see Buka has also suggested, and it's by far the easiest, and gives lower filesize + good results, definitely give that one a go.

Bumping an old thread here.

I converted a few WMVs at 640x480 and the resulting FLV is smaller in size. Not 640x480 and not 320x240, almost an odd size, square almost. That normal? I assume my settings are off.

Not for me. I use WinnFF and have custom settings for the flv outputs, but even on default I'm pretty sure it keeps widescreen wide and whatnot.

I don't know how you're viewing them though. The flv player I have has a dynamic size setting, so if you're not changing your player size that could make the flv's look like they are an odd size. |huh

I decided to download that Super one http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html and it seems to be working fine. Not sure why Sorensen was doing what it was doing but this is working fine.

"SO Think" is a company that makes a lot of flash video tools. They have encoders, decoders, flash video rippers and such.
