How to get rid of these submitters?

Oke here my problem for a couple of days i get the strangest submits at my linksite!
Example:
url:http://cmfaixgtjnux.com/
submitters name: uwjpthvj
email:fvyezr@mrlfrm.com
ip:208.85.181.35

in januar this year i got realy 100s a day of submits like that, everytime strange urls, strange emails, but most of the time same ip, i did manage to block the ips from the others, but now all the submits have ip: 208.85.181.35......and ven i have blocked it, it still comes thru my submitpage.....by 100s again, i have tried to search but cant find any trace on the domains or emails....!
So any advice how to stop them is welcome!

Partner accounts always come in handy in these kind of situations :D

I think youll always have certain people that try and get through. I get alot of spammy sites that are basically a CJ site for meds and things like that. ANything but an actual freesite. I just add them to the block list.

Sven800 2009-03-11 10:20 PM

they will run out of domain names eventually - I blacklist them.

That can be a good thing yes:D, but i have the feeling the submit page is hit by some submit bot or so, it submits to every category i have and the description of the submitted site is always something like this: "syydggg Since the domains dont excist i cant understand the "why", but like NY yester and sven800 say, i will put them on the blacklist, it have to stop sometime:D

stuveltje 2009-03-12 06:37 AM

I think i found the solution and it was right infront of my face in my linksite admin......i am not gonna say yet what it is, but if it works then i am a fucking stupid moron ( and yep i know already some name me that way:D), but till now i dont have those submits anymore, even blacklisting domains and emails and ip didnt work.|bananna|

Ah :) How did you do it stu? I just posted the same problem in the cheaters section.

blinki bill 2009-03-12 10:36 AM

you can add some more security like rejecting submissions with "illegal" characters and/or html tags like "" inside.
Other thing is to improve it against bots - one of the best solutions i saw till now is trough js where it checks the visitor screen width (bots emulate pretty everything to look like real people but this value is always "0") and if it's not a human the submit button just doesn't comes on the page (way more successful method than the catchpa)

One other thing in your case the domains submitted doesn't exists so if you have a recip link checker and the page submitted doesn't have your recip or doesn't exists it won't be added to the base

i forgot i have also a blacklist on words ( i dont know i you have my script from the linksite project that time, but that one has it also), so i used a part of the word they use for description on the blacklist for words and now they cant submit anymore, i keep saying its a bot, last time i heard from someone that bots are made smart enough now to confirm the extra submit page most have (also at webmasters board to confirm their accound) but now the submit bot will have an problem.|bananna|

stuveltje 2009-03-12 12:13 PM

oh and jel if you have the same script as mine dont use the a infront the word, because the script will block anything with an "a" in the description, you have the same submits i am talking about, only use the last 4 letters of the description to block

Jel 2009-03-12 01:15 PM

ah, of course :) Thanks stu :)

Sven800 2009-03-12 08:25 PM

Nice solution. Will keep this in mind if I ever run into the same problem.

stuveltje 2009-03-13 04:07 AM

yep it all works fine, yesterday morning i putted the word in the blacklist and since then not one of those submits came thru anymore. But i still can kick myself for not seeing that "block word" option, because its right under the other blocks like email, ip, and domain, but then the last time i used that option was about 5 years ago or so:D

Jel 2009-03-14 06:11 AM

Yep, that worked a treat :)

If it's not to much trouble I'd like to have a copy. Don't waste a bunch of time looking for it tho. :)

Maj. Stress you have a PM

Just add some CAPTCHA code to your submit page and it should kill off autosubmits. No submitters can read and enter the random word or code. Check out my submit page in my sig.

all those options mentioned here are all great, for me the word blocking did all, i informed my bosses and they did the same, and i am a happy reviewer now:D and i hope many others are happy too with every option mentioned here!|boobies|

Best way to stop the stress of reviewing and blocking the html or submit words on the server is c-class ip blocks. And, if they are all coming from a certain region that you really do not get other submits from, a b-class. Doing it in your server simply blocks them from getting to the submit page in the first place. You can block them in your server firewall which is often apf at /etc/apf/ then the cofig file which I forget the name of.

If you need help to do it this way, let me know and I can dig up the tutorial.

what you say can help, but i dont need the help all is solved at my side, i dont know for others, but like you said they can hit you up for that, still cool to find out how many solutions will show in a thread like this.

i think captcha is best thing to bypass those :) when i started my linklist, in few days i got something like this:
maefiueanifaiu.in
eauiureau.tk
iejatiqujitqj.in
and so on...
so i simply added captcha, and now zero spam :)
