Actually plateman, I think the purple against the black is harder on the eyes than the original color you had. Perhaps you could try a lighter shade of purple :)

That shade of purple was kinda hard on my eyes.

yea whenever red mixes with blue/purple it gets tough on the eyes, i'd change to something else, but otherwise would look pretty good

Here's my two cents worth. I found your page hard on the eyes too! What about black type on a light blu or green background? I find Green Guys site hard on the eyes too - green on black. Maybe black on a beige background?

Don't ask me about choosing colours, I am the worst.

I would say "less is more" with most things.

This is useful for choosing web colours.

Reading requires contrast of background from text, the less contrast there is, the harder it is to read.
