Will changing ARS sites get us banned?

I have been thinking about all of the galleries and free sites I have out there promoting specific ARS sites.
I can't simply switch these to another sponsor. There is specific text, promo graphics, even the overall "look" of the galleries and sites themselves built to match the site the traffic would be going to.

I have two options left...
1. Allow the traffic to get redirected to FMAO (which doesn't even have my niches), or
2. Remove those sites/galleries and put up a 404 page that hopefully will be able to refilter that traffic and send it to other sponsors' niched sites.

Either way, I'm facing domains getting banned. Option 1 leaves me with having "blind links" on my sites/galleries and the surfer isn't going where I said he'd go. Option 2 makes me look like a cheater.

The only hope I have at this point is that the sites/galleries are old enough that the LL/TGP scripts will simply delist my URL rather than ban me. What a risk, though.

What are the chances of the TGP/LL owners being a little more lenient than normal with these old ARS sites and galleries so that we don't get banned? :(
What are you guys with site-specific sites/galleries going to do? (Hopefully you've thought of something I haven't...)

Carrie - where did you see a list of the niches that FMAO has?

RawAlex 2004-02-24 04:04 PM

Carrie, there are other options:

Look at your stats. Determine which sites are getting traffic, and then

1 - "renew" the sites with new sponsors, careful to maintain the content and overall layout of the site / gallery / content. Make sure that your site continues to have the same number of link offs etc. -ior-

2 - Contact those sites sending you traffic and ask them to removing listings for those sites in question. Build new sites to replace the ones you are losing -or-

3 - contact those sites sending you traffic, and confirm to them that you will be modifying those sites to use new sponsors and such. Let them know BEFORE you start changing things. -or-

4 - plead ignornace, build new sites, and wait to see the results.

If the sites are too graphically intense, #2 is the better solution.

I am looking at my bot right now, and considering mods to have it look for old ARS codes and either remove those sites, notify the webmaster, or move them into a "re-review" pile for me to look into. I don't want to penalilze anyone, but I also don't want surfers misdirected by what will effectively be blind links / redirects.

It seems to me that tgp gallery makers are screwed. I for one don't know where my sites are listed so I can't contact those tgps. If I change the sites I get banned for changing the html. Seems I have no choice but to just leave things as they are and move on? Am I off-base here?

you may want to start setting things up so that your banners/text links lead to a series of jump pages that you host, then in the future if something like this happens again its just a matter of changing those jump page links. Plus if you pull all your banners from a common directory it would be easy to update your banners by just overwriting the exisiting ones.

I know, it might not help you with your current TGP galleries but it will make things easier in the future.

cheers!

www.formatureaudiencesonly.com

It's already set up and taking traffic, looks like a frontend for SearchBoXXX.

Thanks for the options Alex, I'm considering directions.

Luke - normally I don't build "generically" enough to do that. My sites and galleries are built to lead to a specific site - colors match the sponsor's tours, text is aimed at the site (usually with the Site's name), I even chop some graphics out of the sponsor's tour and use them on my sites/galleries.

My click-throughs are lower building like this, but my conversions are stellar. I tell everyone I won't send you much traffic, but it'll convert ;)

I guess what I'm going to have to start doing *is* building more generically. Using my PHP includes to be able to change sponsors rather than just changing one sponsor's ads (like change banner 1 for banner 2, I'll instead change sponsor 1 for sponsor 2).

That'll be a big learning experience for me, building generically like that, but I gotta try it. We know that ARS isn't going to be the only sponsor to go through big changes this year.

Best advice I've seen as a relative newbie is to email EVERYONE you have submitted that has an ars link on it.
I know I don't want my traffic redirected without my consent...so I am removing all ARS links, though replacing many where I can with the new ARS RI

I've had several galleries listed on Persian Kitty and World Sex for example that I had forgotten about...several months after I submitted them.
I had figured those gone for I've had more recent pages on both of them...but sure as hell all of a sudden I get an email from one and heavy traffic from both...I'm heavily in the rotation system at XNXX also...and many of my real old pages are still getting archive hits many places, but I don't think that would matter, just new listings.
I really think this is a major shakeup in the industry...I know it is for lil ole me..lol....hell ARS was overall one of GG&J's top sponsors last year :) and it has made me a nice piece of change....but I think all the players in the industry realize what is happening and will let a lot slide.

But it doesn't hurt to email them b4 you change anything.
I know it sucks for me with all my niches, most were based on ARS sites and filled in with my other sponsers....Hurry up John with those Gay, Tranny, and Anal niches you are hinting at...lol
I'm scrambling in some of my niches for sponsers as it is :)

Personaly, I think I can make some money with the new ARS...but they are in no way going to be again my main sponsor...as it was I've found some of the smaller guys convert much better..tho 1 400 average is not bad...I'm Really Going to miss Mature is Better and Old N Naughty as they have been converting my first and largest niche at under 1/250...sigh...No one I have tried has come close in the mature niche...tho ExploitedMoms is close.
Plus I'm finding a lot of the "gay network" sites convert well

Well now to look for other ways to make money :)

I would think there will be some degree of LL owners bearing with us during this time of transition

Greenguy 2004-02-25 09:27 AM

I think I can speak for a majority of link list owners as far as altering your sites. The rule of thumbs has always been:

"You can do anything you want to your site as long as it's still following the rules"

If you want to go thru all your site & change out the sponsors, go nuts :)

BUT....

If you do decide to just pull the sites without letting the link list that has you listed know you're going to be pulling them, then you will probably get blacklisted for 404 (not found) or 302 (redirecting)

So if you do plan to shitcan all your sites, send the link list a list of sites you want pulled BEFORE you pull them.

Oops - almost forgot....

Carrie - the small list of categories you see on the front page of FMAO right now is NOT the master list. We will be able to send traffic to any keyword we want.

And as MarcDe said on the show last night, they will take existing GIM & BYOT links & point them to the best possible keywords at FMAO.

Please clarify for this newbie-- is that not redirecting and won't I get banned by TGPs for redirecting my galleries?

Greenguy 2004-02-25 10:14 AM

You're not redirecting your galleries with this - ARS is redirecting any clicks that go thru the old system to the new one.

This is not a new practice - take this BYOT link code of mine:
http://www.adrevservice.com/re.php?a...04&opt=1&cf=no

You click on it & you are sent to:
http://mqq4q9.allpornpass.com/?cf=no...0%3A1145393977

Once they chance it over, when you click on that link, you'll be sent to a page on FMAO :)
