Does that mean that you don't add any banners / text / links to the site to help cover your costs? No money bar across the top of the blog?

Unless your not adding any of YOUR advertising that this is not free, at a minimum it costs anyone who sets up a blog on your service traffic they work hard to generate.

it's FREE because you the user aren't paying a red penny for the service I provide. Not being FREE would be me charging YOU a fee. Traffic does not equal a fee because you know just as well as I do that just because you get traffic to your site does not mean they are going to click on your links and subscribe to anything. The links at the top of the blog are not in the way of any content that is added to the individual blog. If the links at the top of the blog are too much for you to handle than you should go find another FREE service and make a blog there or better yet you can go buy a domain name and pay whatever that fee is and convert YOUR hard generated traffic into cold hard cash. I'm not forcing anyone to use my service I just offer it to people who would like to use it. Good luck to you.

And you know those little links you add to the top of the blogs are in prime advertising space and that you will get more traffic from those links than any of the other links that are on the page.

Yes, you are offering a service but you are profiting from that service. You are able to profit from that service so don't try to tell me how hard it is to convert that traffic.

I do own my own sites, my own domains and pay for my own hosting. I do know how difficult it is to generate and convert traffic.

I'm just looking for some truth in advertising like I'll host your blog but I get 10% of the traffic for whatever I want. Or I don't want your money, I want your sweat.

Why not explain how someone who uses your service could lose everything they've worked to build because you decide you want out of the business, or to sell the domain or any other business decision you may make about YOUR site.

How many people lost years of work when blogger stopped allowing adult? How much money did people lose when thumbblogger was hacked?

Your service may not cost any out of pocket cash but it is a long way from being FREE.

Ya know Walrus ... if he truly does not believe that traffic = money we could have some real fun using his host |headbang|

Truth in advertising? Dude, don't you know "newbs should start on a freehost" and bullshit like that?
|lol|

btw, any thoughts on that PM I sent ya? |devil|

First off, if anyone is using my service as the only way to TRY and make money in porn that is mistake number one.

Secondly, it's good that you own your own domains and pay for your own hosting, so why do you attack me for running my own site and doing my own thing. Do you get some sort of gratification out of attacking someone on a forum.

As far as advertising goes I have a very simple text link at the top of my site and at best I might get 10 hits on them a day. People do not go to porn sites to read the text at the top of the blog. Most people don't even see the link. People go to porn sites to look at pictures not read links.

Don't look now dude but every site you link to on your sites is stealing your traffic and you linked to them voluntarily. You think just because you get these visitors to your site they are going to stay on your site and generate you sales? I think not.

As far as my business decisions go, I know that there are people who use my service and much of what I decide to do takes them into account, so don't talk to me about MY business. I don't provide this service with any warranty or guaranty so anyone who uses it does so at their own risk. What I do expect is people to have the common decency to leave me alone about my site if they don't like it, or just not use it would be ok by me. I don't come to your job and throw rocks at you. All I want to do is make a service that other people can use. If you are so concerned about the people loosing everything they have done on my site go register www.donotusetriplexblogs.com and warn them that you have taken on the responsibility of getting the word out about using so called FREE blog services. Do the world a favor. (I've checked, the domain is available.)

When it comes to other services out there I don't care, I am not those services. All I want to do is make a service that other people can use. Blogger was never meant to have porn on it and as far as getting hacked goes...no one is immune to that.

If what you want to read me type is that my service is not provided free, your going to have a long wait. Any response you have to this is just going to be ignored so if you do respond it, your response will just be pandering to the public because I'm done with this I have better things to do.

I see services like this as something that can be used kind of as a supplement to what you are doing. Creating feeder blogs and what not. Definitely not where you want to focus all your time or energy, but it serves its purpose.

Which is why I'm posting its not that I have anything against your or your service, it's because otherwise a newbie trying to get into blogging and doesn't know better doesn't realize this.

There are people who have been totally wiped out because they didn't know this and built their business on free hosts

Being honest, is your heading for this post really aimed at attracting experienced webmasters or people just trying to get a start in the business.

No, I get no gratification out of attacking anyone and like I said, this isn't personal. I've got much better things I could use my time for. I just think that the terms used by people who operate this type of service is misleading. People should go into using it with their eyes wide open

Ok, so your going broke running this service. Nobody clicks those links...THEN WHY HAVE THEM!

At least I entered into those trades with my eyes open and they are positioned on my site where I chose and I can promise you they are not in prime ad space.

This isn't a personal attack. I don't have a clue as to who you are. I'm not even trying to dissuade people from using your service. You could very well run the very best blog hosting service available and those that choose to use such a service may find that it's very profitable to use it.

I just think that they should not be mislead into thinking they are getting something for nothing. Nothing more, nothing less.

I actually hope your site, your service, works well for you.

Again, this isn't personal, never was meant to be. I'm sure you run a great service and take all the precautions possible to protect those that entrust their work in your hands.

Which is exactly what I've been doing since I first posted. My intent was not to attack you or your service, my intent was to point out to the webmasters (as I doubt much of the public really come in here), particularly the newer webmasters just beginning to think about blogging as a solution, that the term FREE HOST was misleading and that they should be prepared to pay for that service with something other than cash.

Now I'm done so I could give a shit whether you chose to respond or not

Personally, I think this is one of the biggest myth's that continues to surface in the blogging community.

Why not supplement what you are doing by building other quality sites that may not take as much work to update as a blog does. Why not supplement what your doing with sales pages, free sites, mini-sites SEO pages and what not that can generate traffic on their own but require little to no future updating.

But that's probably a topic for a different post

Years of experience in one sentence for those that are wise enough to take heed.

You could very well be right. Its not a method I've used much myself, but I've talked to a lot of webmasters who do utilize these services and swear by them. I myself haven't done much with sploging or free hosted services.

IMO, the ones who "swear by" splogging and using FBHs firmly belong in the "throw enough shit against the wall" school of thought and are only after traffic for traffic's sake. I have puzzled over the popularity of splogging for years now, and finally asked a couple of sploggers to show me what they had that they considered successful. Let's just say I was underwhelmed, and even tried to point out to one of them that he was completely missing opportunities for sales by his method. His answer? "Who cares, it gets traffic into my network."

FWIW.
