cookies on free sites

How do you all feel about freesites setting cookies?

I know almost all the time it happens it is the work of sponsors banners, but I feel a free site should be clean, and have been (and may continue) rejecting sites that set cookies

I even rejected one of my favorite submitters today (sorry Luscious Delight) for every page of his submission set off bells and whistles.

I agree.

I don't always look for cookies but when I do the only one that I allow is Google Analytics.

MeatPounder I know what fs you have in mind and the only cookie is there is Im Live , geobanner. What's wrong with that ?

MeatPounder 2009-07-02 11:26 PM

on Luscious' site it was gamelink.com

And there are a lot of banners that set cookies and NOT ONLY the geo tracking ones if you bother looking for them

I must admit that I rarely check cookies , especially from very trusted submitters. Oh well another thing todo on my already long list :(

Wazza 2009-07-03 05:37 AM

Oh well, I'll leave you off my sub list then...

Once I switched to only trusted submitters for the most part I stopped caring about cookies, using flash, where banners and content were being pulled from and a bunch of other issues that became non issues. There days my submissions are very good. I can't remember the last time I declined a site.

I'll get rid of the Gamelink if it's a problem...I know a lot of you listed my latest site:

Code:

I've used Gamelink ads and really never noticed the cookies.

Sorry to hear that Wazza, but then again I posted this thread to find out if I was too harsh rejecting sites with cookies

Or is it a case by case basis, some cookies are ok, some are not, how many cookies...1? 2? 5? unlimited? are generally allowed
Are tracking cookies that "phone home" when sites are visted ok?

I know personally I refuse all but first person cookies when I surf, but should I be that strict for the surfers coming to me?

So if unlimited cookies are ok, then I guess a few pop ups should be allowed as the cookies are much more invasive then most pops ups?

I really want to know what is generally accepted...I know I catch a lot of flack for not allowing "boy" on twink sites...and boy, dad, and young on the same page is almost bannable for me after the 2nd or 3rd rejection to the same submitter....but most link lists seemed not to mind boy at all...but that one I won't back off on (same as simulated incest even in toons), and young girls, and I cringe at barely legal either sex

I don't want to seem too strict, but I also have my standards

Wazza 2009-07-03 04:26 PM

And I want to be able to protect my movies from hotlinkers, which is the sole reason I use them
