Automating Blogs

Anyone know of articles or tutorials on automating blogs..I assume they can be automated to some extent?

Evil Chris 2009-08-24 12:20 PM

I don't know about full automation, but someone pointed out a tool called BlogDesk to me which will update all your blogs at once (with the same entry).

I doubt the search engines like that kind of thing though.

You could use a plug-in and supply your blog with a sponsors feed. That is how some do it. I myself don't use them as they are extensively used by many other webmasters. I like my blogs to have unique content.

I've found this nifty little plug-in that I use and find it extremely helpful. It's called CSV to Post and can be found here

http://www.zackpreble.com/2008/03/28...nto-wordpress/

I just build a spreadsheet with the title/postdate/category/actual post html/ and any other special fields. You can date each post individually down to the time. In about a couple of hours I can create unique blog posts that updates every how many days I want and import the file. With 122 posts and updates every 3 days I have a blog that is set for a year and now I can concentrate on promoting the blog and working on other projects.

I hope this helps.

edit: BTW, this version only works with wordpress versions 2.6 and earlier. I don't know off hand if there is an update that works with 2.7-2.8 yet.

I'll take a look at that, but don't think its what I'm looking for. Thanks Chris.

That's a nice helpful little plugin..thanks for sharing it. My blogs are 2.7 so don't have to worry about it not working with 2.8 :)

I think you really need to take a look at blogs automater, great script and excellent help forum: http://www.blogsautomater.com/

I have heard of a plugin that recycles older posts

if there isnt a new post in 2 days it takes the oldest post and redates it so it is new

If you're trying to automate blogs with RSS feeds there are plugins like WP-O-Matic. It's a great way to make a few pennies.

Electra 2009-09-18 05:00 PM

Some interesting info.

If you have a lot of blogs isn't it a pain when you have to upgrade Wordpress? I only upgrades 5..and had some horrible problems with two..can't imagine what happens if you have hundreds.

FuckingBastard 2009-09-18 06:27 PM

some good info here !
I have a large number of automater blogs but i already start to turn a part of them in a mix of unique content and rss feeds/flvs.
1 unique handwriten blog may be more productive than 100 auto shitty blogs imho.

vanmichael 2009-09-30 01:55 PM

duplicate content is really bad, trust me ;)

That looks very interesting...keep us posted on it.

Someone already mentioned Blogs Automater, which is a great tool for using sponsor RSS feeds as it will not only aggregate the feeds but allow you to organize them in many different manners. It also will do a search / replace on keywords you determine basically giving it the ability to morph the feeds to help with duplicate content.

If your looking for a tool to control multiple blogs that can also do feed aggregation, their is Blog Organizer

I'd suggest you take a look at booth scripts to figure out which one is the best for what your trying to accomplish.

If you would like to automate the process of parsing sponsors cvs dumps you could use munkytubecsv the link is in my sig.

This takes the csv and turns it into posts which can be scheduled in the past or future within wordpress, you just have to define where each section goes, for instance if you want to use the thumbnails in the excerpt field to work with tube blogs etc,,
