How do you relax?

I am just curious because it seems like I work way too much and dont have much in the way of a hobby. Even during the summer and during fishing season I tend to work a lot. Family is getting worried about my health as I already have a ton of medical problems i deal with daily.

When I do get away I sit in front of the tv or play my playstation 2 to do something where I dont have to think, I can just kill people on the games :)

I have been thinking about learning how to play guitar, so I bought some new strings for this accoustic guitar I had and a book and have been thinking about going to take lessons.

Just curious what you do to relax and how often you get away from the computer during the day to just take a break.

Greenguy 2004-03-02 09:54 AM

I think we just did this :D

AcidMaX 2004-03-02 09:58 AM

See now im losing my mind :)

I go to the gym four or so days a week. I also enjoy bicycle riding if the weather is right. I find that getting away from my house is important since if I'm home I always end up back in front of the computer. I guess this is because I don't really care for watching TV so if I'm home I end up in front of the computer.

Ironically I love to read so I spend long hours at the computer reading, mostly non adult science and tech stuff. LOL

I love to shop, but to shop I have to work so that is a relaxing activity that just makes me have to work more. :D

I missed that other thread so I'll answer this one for the crazy people like you AcidMax.

Play in men's league basketball 3 times per week, Wed and Thursday night and Sunday as well. Gives a bit of excercise too. Otherwise I like to rent a good dvd on Friday or Saturday night.

Truthfully, walking or bike riding, or reading non-work related stuff. A mid afternoon nap helps too.

mrMagoo 2004-03-05 03:04 AM

I turn on the computer first thing in the morning.

I like to take a break for lunch and watch some mind numbing TV as a short break and distraction.

During the evening I always seem to come back to the computer to check something, emails, stats, message boards.

I really need to get out more.

My favourite things to just spend time:

1. Just sitting in my lazy boy recliner, drinking booze and listening my old records. The Who, Santana, Led Zeppelin, The Clash...or playing my Musicmatch Jukebox that has almost 5000 songs. I have installed my PC to top notch HI-FI.

2. Watching movies from DVD. We have bolted a Séleco video cannon to the ceiling and we have two meters wide screen and the latest home theatre audio. Believe me, it's just like a real movie theatre.

3. I play guitar. Yamaha acoustic or Fender Stratocaster electric. We also have Fender bass, but I'm lousy bass player. Sometimes I try to play keyboards, we have Roland that has real good electric piano sound. But, playing electric guitar with Johnson J-Station is best. That gizmo can give you the sound of Jimi. Or anyone you want.

4. Watch TV.

TiVo. My DVD player is threatening to take the TV and leave me, cause I never pay attention to it anymore. Hours of my favorite shows are sitting there *right now* waiting for me to watch them. And I can skip the commercials.

DVDs. I've got quite a few.

Video games. I usually keep a shooter or two installed on my PC. Nothing's more therapeutic than blowing stuff up.

Do some creative work. I write, play bass, make my brain work for its oxygen.

I fly fish when I can. When I can't I often practice my casting.

"There is moment in fly fishing when your whole world becomes fly fishing"
--Norman Maclean

I fully understand this quote. The act of fly fishing for me becomes a meditation. It is the only form of relaxation I have ever found that completely focus my attention.

AcidMaX 2004-03-10 05:28 PM

I don't fly fish at all really just bass fish mostly, this summer I'm planning to get out here more....

Sad part is that is my backyard and I hardly ever get to go out there. This summer is going to change all that. Gonna take more time for myself and less time in front of the computer and enjoy the summer a bit more than usual.

I am hoping to take some lessons for my guitar too so I can sit out on the back porch, look at the lake and just play some tunes :)

spazlabz 2004-03-11 06:21 AM

@ work I step outside
otherwise I just day dream a lot

Bell 2004-03-11 03:11 PM

I day dram allot too...
I hadn't even thought to consider that a form of relaxation...
but it is...

I often do candles and a 2 hour bubble bath in the quiet
dark... to think and plan... things pop into my head so
much easier during those times... sometimes I amaze
myself at the ideas I come up with...

if I had a sugardaddy I sure would be putting more of
those plans into ACTION... - - - but I am confident
there will be a time and place for everything...

and pre-planning is always a GOOD thing...

lavender candles or bubble bath - definitely are a bonus
to me - for those brainstorming bubble soak times...
among other scents...but lavender is my favorite..

p.s. back to my search - for someone needing help
via a pair of creative hardworking pair of independent
contractor experienced hands... (wow !!! that sounds
impressive... doesn't it... LOL !!!)
