I have a WP blog that loses it's theme over and over - ideas?

So, I've got this old blog that has a strange problem.

I put a theme on it, and the blog runs for a couple of days, then it loses it's theme, and reverts to a default theme.

I took out the default theme - and the blog loses it's theme, and crashes to a white page.

It does this no matter what theme I use, so far. It didn't use to do this ever, for years it ran a theme reliably.

Any ideas of what is going wrong? googling 'wordpress loses it's theme' and searches in the wordpress forum have turned up nothin so far.

what wordpress version?

I've actually never ran across that problem. My best guess is it's some type of database problem. Have you tried repairing / optimizing the database?

or how about uploading your good theme in the default folder

dont upload.. just rename directories :)

It's 2.8 something I think. Checking the dashboard, it's 2.8.4.

It was doing this with an older version. I updated to see if the version was the problem. Also tried different themes to see if it was a theme/version conflict. Apparently it's not.

Uploading the theme in the default directory sounds like a neat idea. Definitely something to try.

No I haven't tried repairing the database, tho I was certainly thinking it might be a db problem. What would be the wise way to go about repairing the database?

I'll be googling that today.

I wouldn't know the best way but I install wp-dbmanager on all my blogs. You can schedule backups and optimizations on your database. It also does db repairs.

Since I haven't had any db problems in a really long time... either it's working or it at least isnt hurting.

I'm curious if you've resolved this by renaming directories?

Bill 2009-10-15 04:47 PM

Well, i used walrus's plugin and had it repair the database (tho it wasn't saying that it needed repairs or nuthin), AND placed the theme I'm using in teh default directory.

So far so good. It would normally have lost the theme by now.

But who knows, maybe tomorrow I check it and it's a blank white page again.
