Message Board
Hi I am getting ready to add a message board to one of my models site and was wondering what you all thought about the best board to offer on her site. I was thinking Yabb. Yet, I am open at this point. I want a seamless and easy to use for photos and message with her fans.
Thanks Mike |
It's definitely worth it to pay for a good board like vBulletin, especially if you're going to have people that are doing moderation for you, and you want to keep tabs on what they're moderating.
Free forums like Yabb/phpBB/SimpleMachines etc are decent forum softwares, but the administrative and moderation abilities are minimal. I ran a forum, where one of the mods got a god complex, and was deleting posts and banning people that he didn't like willy-nilly. I had no idea it was going on because I wasn't a regular on the board, and when people complained to me about it, it was hard for me to find evidence because the software didn't have a moderation log or anything like that. |
If you have enough, I would recommend you to buy a vBulletin license. Although it looks complicated, it isn't really. Besides that, Ed is right. If you will be having people moderating the board for you, vBulletin has a log on what they do so you can keep an eye on them. Aside that, you can also transfer the license from one place to another for free. You just input the link to where the installation is located at inside your customer area on vBulletin.
If you are looking for something free though, I suggest you to try out MyBB. It kinda works like vBulletin without having as much options as vBulletin but it's solid. |
Another vote for vBulletin.

Why not just install a flat board.

If you have an existing copy of vbulletin, you should order for the presale.
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=320055 http://www.vbulletin.com/ There is discussion that they are changing the licensing method and rumors that the license terms will all be reset on Nov 1 when 4.0 comes out. Based on what I am reading, it appears that a purchase of 4.0 gives you upgrades for the 4.x series for life. Meaning that the annual subscription is gone. When 5.0 is released, you would have the option of upgrading there. In any case, if you have VB 3.x, you should take a look. If you don't have it, you will want to look at 4.0's 'social cms frontend' + the forums. |
vote for vbulletin..
also if you dont wanna pay, try simple punbb.. |
