ATT: unlimited bandwidth equals 5gig

This may cut down on the porn surfing, and smart phone sales. |whisper|

AT&T says you’re using too much bandwidth! Bad you!
All you punks out there watching Internet video and downloading monkey porn had better stop! There’s a current 5 gigabyte cap on data right now but soon, friends, AT&T is going to close up that “unlimited” plan and hopes to educate the consumer on proper data use.

We have two iphones on one account and even with streaming radio and watching a bunch of youtube we go through less then 3 gigs a month.

I had their mobile broadband for my laptop but canceled within the 30 days to avoid the contract. Their overage charges were something like $500 per GB -- no that's not a typo -- Five hundred dollars per GB over 5 GB in a month. In my opinion that sort of overage charge ought to be criminal.

To confuse people they also like to present the overage as a charge per MB ... most of the people out there don't know the difference between a KB, MB, or GB.

Yeah, I know my cable(medium sized) uses $1/100mB for overages. When I was talking to their billing support one time, I tried pinning them down about how they could charge $10/gB when tier one is getting arounf $0.25/gB. Nothing like a 4000% markup eh!

I've heard that Verizon's laptop connect is better but I don't know what their fees are.

I don't know what the overage fees are, but the basic monthly service is about the same, $60us a month. I had trouble with Verizon because it would not work in all the places the ATT worked. Verizon claims to have a larger coverage area, but a lot of that area is out of the main network, and the connection is very slow.
