Another porn recession article - based on Las Vegas shows
More "porn not recession proof" media-pr0n...
50% drop blah blah Real Touch blah blah sex robot blah blah. http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com..._blg=1,1543989 This long recession has overturned the adage that booze and sex are recession-proof, and it was very apparent at this year's AVN Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas. Fan attendance at the 11th expo was down between 10% and 20% from a year, and there were 267 exhibitors this year, an 11% drop from 2009. ... The $13 billion porn industry has suffered a 50% drop in DVD sales since the peak in 2006 and has had to broaden its horizons technologically. |
Did you read the comment by Sean Devlin? Looks like they really screwed up their facts in the article.

Well, I try to convey with things like the "media pr0n" comment that none of these articles can be trusted.
The mainstream media is addicted to porn articles - they always get the facts wrong, by definition. The articles purpose is to appeal to the rubes with hints of salaciousness and money (or lack of money in this case). However, I'm not believing that attendance is up either. All sides benefit from massaged data. |
Porn may be typically recession proof, but we're not in any normal recession. Now we have to hope that when we get out and everyone has money again, they go back to buying instead of freeloading off tubes. Cross your fingers. ;)

The freeloading is a big factor, I think. With so many ppl broke they're learning more and more how to get it for nothing.
