Heads up to Paul Markham - your mail is SPAM

...according to my ISP's E-mail server...not me. ;)

Here's the message I got...it seems you should add more text:

Quote:

This mail is probably spam. The original message has been attached along with this report, so you can recognize or block similar unwanted mail in future. See http://spamassassin.org/tag/ for more details.

Some ISP's just boggle the mind.

Alphawolf 2004-03-08 06:03 PM

Sorry- I didn't mean ISP, meant Host. :)

This host is actually very good, but I think they implemented a system wide Spam filter. I just posted a message on their board.

Not sure of the point though. Their mail server had to analyze the e-mail, then decide it was Spam by .1 points and strip the body and make an attachment.

I still get the E-mail, but the body of the text is now just explaining what the Spam filter is.

|huh

ardentgent 2004-03-08 08:30 PM

I got that as well.

thrillho 2004-03-08 09:40 PM

Me too

Alphawolf 2004-03-08 09:50 PM

Hmm. Anyone still have the e-mail to check the header?

I learned my Host didn't turn any system wide spam filter on.

Maybe Paul is using a service that passes though a spam filter?

Beats me.

thrillho 2004-03-08 10:26 PM

I've still got it. Here's the header. I don't know what all the stuff means, but here you go.

Looks like his host has it enabled:

X-Spam-Flag: YES
X-Spam-Status: Yes, hits=5.1 required=5.0

Makes sense...he has to change some options if he can.

I like seeing his pics appear in my e-mail. :)

yes we have spam assassin and it was picked up on our system. Will show this to the webmasters when they come in and see if they can tweak the system or just disable it completely.

I long for the day when people have to pay for emails, then the spammers will be gone and we can get back to normal life.

Great idea! Costly to us, but still a good idea. LOL

i don't think it will cost, natural competition between hosts will keep it right. Let's say they give 500 emails per month for free with every account, then 1,000 for every Gig or $100 you send with them a month. The figures are just my stab in the dark.

Then for extra emails you pay 1 cent, bulk mailers sending out 1 million emails are faced with a bill of $100,000 for a million. Too much to make bulk spamming profitable, low enough for genuine businesses who rely on a mailing list to infrom/promote to their clients.

Less animosity towards "Newsletter spam", less filtering, no need to pay for programds like Spam Arrest, no need to spend an hour or more everyday deleting offers to make your dick, harder longer and more effective. Is that worth it?

There will always be free mail servers, but email programs can opt in or out of taking mail from them. The spammer can no longer hijack your mail server. Do you think he's going to send out a million emails before he sees the money? He will want the money first.

But it's not my idea, it's Bill gates and the best one I've heard about dealing with spam. It's a problem we have to address or sink under a flood of unwanted emails.

SirMoby 2004-03-09 01:31 PM

Hey Paul,

The last email that I recieved got picked up by Norton as Spam. However, all previous emails have gotten through just fine. You are on my approved list so it must be something different in only the last email sent.

March 8 - Spam
March 5 - just fine

Paul Markham2 2004-03-09 02:23 PM

We had Spam Assassin on our server and that tagged it as spam. Can you believe it our own program tagged our message as spam. |sad|

SirMoby 2004-03-09 02:59 PM

Well Paul we still love you and we still read your emails.
