What do you tell your Grandma you do?
 

..if you have Grandparents that are still alive, what do you say you do for a living?

My Grandma is still alive though she is gradually getting worse.

She knows I'm doing 'web stuff', but not sure what to say if she asks what I am selling.

Thing is that whatever I tell her will spread through to the rest of the family. So, if I say i am selling..I dunno- camcorders, then at every holiday I'll be asked "How's the camcorder thing going?"

Hey, what is your domain so I can check it out? can I get a deal? Etc...

LOL.

My Mom is cool with my site and my fiancee' is OK with it which is all that counts really. But it is sorta irksome to feel like I need to hide my porn site I worked and am working so hard at.

Hmm. Maybe I'll just say I have a message board and run Ads that pay me.

What do the rest of you do?

I work with the dimensional overlords on the direction of a new future reality seeing as this version, 16b.02.1, seems to be flawed.

It does suck telling them that in the new beta version there isn't a god or any grandparents but that is progress so grandma bend over and kiss your wrinkled ass goodbye.

I really don't tell my Grandmother what I do. But, I am sure she knows. I remember telling my mother and father way back when and neither was very happy. At the time, I was teaching English at a local High School. Very soon after I started making real money, I had to tell my mother that I made too much money in the business to teach anymore. I also had threatening emails telling me they were going to tell the school district what I was doing.

About 6 months ago, my mother, who went to Catholic Schools her entire school life, told me....she would rather have a child be with 10 people in our business than to be with one priest.

When I first told my mother, all she ever heard about the Adult Business on the Internet was what the media still makes us out to be...nothing but perverts. But, she came to understand that we are business men and women.

My Grandmother thinks I teach math online. Seeing as I was always good at math in school, it was a nice easy lie :)

Not that I am as deeply entrenched in the business as some of the bigger players....but I just tell people that I build websites for small businesses and then maintain them for them (for a monthly fee) so they don't have to do it themselves. If they press for more (like what sort of monthly maintenance) I say I make changes to their pricing indexes, keep job opportunities and sales announcements up-to-date, re-design pages to keep them fresh, etc etc.

Yeah- I was trying to tell my Mom a lot of decent people are in the business...I explained your radio show and the lady who ran the charity.

My Mom told me she doesn't know what to tell her co-workers in the office. They all have computers and have seen past sites I did...but she sorta doges this project. |jester|

This thread maybe a few days old, but I'm playing catch up and it caught my attention.

I've just spent the last four months with my grandmother living with us.

It was crazy...waiting til she'd go to bed squeezing in as much nighttime hours as I sanely could, minimizing windows when she'd make midnight bathroom trips from her room, making check deposits but not being able to explain how I'm recieving checks with no job because she had to do every single errand or outting with me...yikes!

I think my problem was I'm a lousy fibber. I studder, stumble, my heart starts beating so hard I'm convinced the whole world can hear it, my cheeks flush, and I know I'm so obvious I can't get away with nuttin'. So, I dodged it the best I could for as long as I could in hiding. |couch| I hope that now I won't have to dodge any questions...but we've mapped out a cover with other work I'll be doing.

Finally, starting today...I have privacy, woohoo!

Seriously though, everyone in my family and all my friends know that I've been a computer systems analyst/consultant since I was working my way through college. ;)
