Canada looking at content based internet tax

WTF, I thought some of the other countries were nuts. |crazy|

The federal government will soon tax Internet usage in an effort to pay down the country’s swelling deficit.

“This isn’t really a tax. It’s more of a user fee. Those who don’t want to pay, can just live offline. The majority of Canadians do just fine without the Internet.”

White said the plan will force Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to monitor customers’ web surfing and turn a usage report over to the feds at the end of the year for taxation. The plan is to tax each site visit based on the page’s content.

First thing after the holiday this gets a complaint with the Privacy commision. If the government thinks it can monitor my surfing habits just so they can impose content based taxes. they ain't going to be around. |banghead|

And I'll also be chatting with some of the biggest legal firms in the country who happen to be B&M clients, and like getting their names in the papers(Greenspan,etc.). |club|

I would believe it.. especially after the new gas tax they just implemented and now they are talking about adding user fees to hospital visits. Our health care is shit here, and now they are gonna make us pay even more for it - 25 bucks this year, 100 next and 200 after that! Like come on!

Try having to pay 350 a month for a single person or 600 a month for a family like here in the USA

When I was going to leave full time employment it was going to cost $950 a month to keep the same plan I had (single person) thru cobra.

Our health care still rocks! But if we keep electing the Conservatives (wannabe Republicans) expect to have to pay for it.
Fuck, my Dad had prostate cancer, dozens of tests, surgery, and then radiation treatments afterwards.
He's 100% now and it didn't cost him a dime.
