Tools of the trade?
This graphic/web design class I am looking in to requires me to use a lot more software than I normally do when making web pages.
Adobe has a half dozen programs dedicated to web design, graphic design and image editing. I was wondering what programs you find the most useful in your work. Thanks. |
Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 for building html and css ( latest and very expensive is cs5 )
Macromedia Fireworks 8 for anything with graphics ( also expensive cs5 ) EditPlus 2.xx for anything else . Arles Image Web Creator for bulk image resizing Snagit for capturing screenshots Total Commander ftp client Notepad ++ for super beer stuff 10 mozilla firefox plugins thunderbird mail client 5 different browsers; IE, Chrome, opera, ff, safari and finally Pandora to get lost in action. |
Another vote for Notepad++ here. That and VIM is all I use for page and css editing, really, though of course the web developer plugin is invaluable.

I use Namo for creating pages, Thumbs Plus for making thumbnails, CompuPic for photo editing, TextPad for hand coding.

Dreamweaver
Paint Shop Pro Arles |
Komodo Edit for PHP/CSS/HTML (I don't know why I use it, I hate it. But I'm used to it)
GIMP/Photoshop Elements. Sometimes I have to use both on the same image to get what I want done. (I'm not well versed in either) DigitalColor Meter (Mac, there is a similar app for Windows) -- It's for grabbing color hex codes from anything on screen. I use it when trying to choose colors for web designs |
Dreamweaver. it is so easy to use
|
Homesite for building pages
Thumbsplus for thumbnails Photoshop & Paintshop Pro for graphics WSFTP Pro |
Filezilla
Notepad Arachnophilia Photoshop Need thumbs plus. Hand editing gallery pics is a PITA |
Nice I see a lot of Dreamweaver, I have used Frontpage until this class. Sometimes when I set around working on sites I wonder if their is an easier way. :P
Thanks for the replies. |
