Spyware pop-up shit

I seem to have contracted some spyware or pop-up crap from I don't know where. I am pretty sure Greenguy didn't just add 400 pop-ups to his new sites page :)
Good thing I have the Google toolbar which blocks pop-ups. But gees... 400 pop-ups blocked on Greenguy... and 900 blocked when going to Tommys. System is slow as hell.

Anybody have ideas as how to remove this shit. I have run my Ad Aware 6... but it doesn't seem to find anything out of the ordinary?

Try This http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/

Thanks MML... however that thing says I'm clean |sad|
(although it admits it can't find all parasites).

When was the last time you updated Ad Aware 6? You should do that once a week at least |rasta|

Surf using Mozilla in the future and then sites can't go installing this crap into your system.

Other then that I have idea how to get ride of spyware since I've never had to deal with it.

Jan,

I had some good results with spybot: http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...d,22262,00.asp

I've always surfed in Netscape accept for doing reviews and didn't realized how much I liked it until I recently starting using IE more. What a joke. I had no idea there are that many sites auto bookmarking shit on you without you even knowing half the time.

Spybot will get rid of a lot of stuff that I couldn't get rid of with the other programs I had tried. Just be sure to update it pretty often. |peace|

Wazza 2003-09-08 11:46 AM

I review in IE because I want to see what crap ppl are pulling...

I got hit with one a while back - overlays popups over many popular porn sites... makes checking stats fun believe you me |angry|

Removal is here...

Finally :)

AdAware latest version downloaded, installed and online updated. It found some CSS Stylesheet hijacking thingy... removed it!

Spybot Search & Destroy latest version downloaded, installed and run. Found something too but I can't remember exactly what it was... but I removed it. The update function in Spybot made it crash though.

Upgraded my Zone Alarm to the most current version.

Upgraded Windows with most current security updates.

Finally system seems normal. No more pop-ups on Greenguys or Tommys either :)

Oh and almost forgot... Thanks all for the quick feedback on this :)

Mozilla is a real fine browser.

It is faster then IE, it has tabs which IE doesn't have, it has popup blocker which IE doesn't have, it doesn't get fucked with by things like adware or Active X.

The best part is the fact that it isn't Microsoft. :P

What ever became of BeOS? Too bad, it did have some nice features, just no apps or support, lol.

Looks like the race is down to *nix and Windows, Hmmm. :)

Cleo if your not seeing the bad stuff whats happening to your surfers ???

Cleo 2003-09-08 12:44 PM

You can have Mozilla make a sound each time it blocks a popup.

As far as the adware and active x stuff non of it ever affected Macs anyway so I've learned to read the code on pages really well at the same time I go to inspect metas and stuff.

But actually I often still use IE to review since it is such a POS browser on the Mac OS X platform that if the site works in IE it should work in anything, lol.

I did have to US IE to renew the plates on my car yesterday since some idiot working for the state of Florida put JavaScript in the header that blocked all browsers except IE for no reason at all. |banghead|

Guess I'm lucky that I wasn't a Linux user who needed to renew her plates.

I know exactly what you got hit with and unfortunately the tools you used won't completely remove it. In fact, no tool will completely remove it. It will come back, always does. Just a matter of time. The best you can do is kill the registry entries using www.spychecker.com/program/cwshredder.html

Fully agree - I hate doing my reviews in IE - at least I know only one browser gets corrupted and I can keep my main browser clean-ish... These fucking TGP submitters...

Yeah problem was back this morning |pissed|
So I finally got the Spybot Search & Destroy updated and it removed some more things. The I ran the cwshredder and it killed 14 registry entries. So now lets see how things turn out... :)
