What do you want from a program these days?

I know the obvious answers, good support, on time payouts, quality content, etc... but in this changing market is what you expect on want from a sponsor changing as well or has it remained the same?

Greenguy 2010-07-21 05:22 PM

I just want shit to convert & retain like it did 3 or 4 years ago :(

Seriously, I want hosted movie galleries with the same layout that are coded (the html) in a "simplish" way so that I can make front ends & submit them as free sites. (and you guys already fit that criteria)

Greenguy 2010-07-21 05:23 PM

BTW - I don't think I ever said CONGRATS! on the new job |thumb

Yea, I hear you on that! I think things will improve from the current state though, I really don't think people want realize what a impact the overall economy is having... I mean if a guy hasn't worked in 6mo, year, or more I would think it would be tough to pull the trigger on buying any porn and millions fall in that category.

Most important is the ability to pay by ePassporte, nowadays I never sign up with anyone who does not offer this.

If you have ePassporte, one thing that can not only sway me into signing up, but also make me promote your program heavily once I have signed up (rather than just a few banner ads) is if you offer a blog feed that can be incorporated into my site as content.

Thirdly (although this is mainly to get me to push your site/s harder rather than to get me to sign up in the first place) is if you have hosted galleries which come with proper descriptions as well. But I do mean proper descriptions, something that actually describes the gallery, not something generic like "hot teen lesbians at it".

Also (again to get me to promote once I have signed up) is that you should have a good selection of banners (various styles, types, and sizes). A good example of this is that AEBN work better for me than MaxCash, plus MaxCash have a hell of a lot of cross sells, and are not recurring. But MaxCash have a great selection of banners, and AEBN's selection is, quite frankly, crap (if anyone ever offers an industry award for the worst selection of banners offered by a sponsor, AEBN win hands down). So when I am looking for an extra sponsor to put in a sidebar, it is usually MaxCash not AEBN.

Finally, and any sponsor who offers this will defiantly get me using them (and no one has yet, so you could be first). I will most certainly sign up with any sponsor who promises that after I have signed up they will organise a threesome with me, Linda Blair, and Gina Gershon (British sponsors can substitute Davina McCall and/or Karen Gillan - or better still, let's make it a fivesome).

All excellent input, since coming on board with Smartbucks we are in the process of adding Epassporte and not just RSS feeds but morphing RSS feeds so that each affiliate's feed will be unique. These both should be complete very soon!

To address your final need, we are in talks with world famous BunnyRanch to possibly have a webmaster event there where they will be able to legally bang a pornstar or two.... ;)

I really don't want to see your sites content all over tubes/torrents/shares if I do a search on Google.

davion 2010-07-23 01:21 PM

For me just a good description of the tube sites will do. It will serves as the contents. :D

Simon 2010-07-23 01:59 PM

Congrats from here too! :)

Please think hard about either NOT fucking up your feeds by doing this to them or at the very least don't make the mistake too many sponsors have made and *also* offer the original feed with no morphing whatsoever. There are many webmasters who will never touch your feeds if all you offer are morphed feeds.

We've actually mentioned this a lot in discussions on this board and some sponsors still don't understand that there are webmasters who do *not* have any use for morph(uck)ed feeds. A couple of posts about it below, but if you search for "morphed" you'll find more.

I will look into that for sure, many want morphed but I'll be glad to try and provide non-morphed as well.

Hosted free sites, not just galleries. I'm guessing a lot of us link list owners would like to see more of that from sponsors.

Yea, its something we need to add for sure! |thumb

Just clicked on your sig, you really need to do something about your "our sites" page. If I was looking for a sponsor that would convince me to put you on my "never use, even if they do offer the threesome" list, it is seriously saying "avoid this sponsor".

1. The presentation of your "our sites" page is overly pretentious, it says "we care more about looking clever than doing a good job" that would scare me off ASP

2. Your "our sites" page should include clear clean HTML links to your sites. Not giving them is telling me that they are so bad that you don't want me to see them, because I'd never want to waste my time pushing your site once I saw how dreadful the tour is.

Simon 2010-07-23 06:42 PM

One thing I forgot to mention that I know a lot of webmasters want is a program which does not expire the affiliate tracking cookie unless it's because it's being replaced by another affiliate cookie that gets set if that surfer visits another affiliate site and clicks that affiliate's link.

Too many sponsors set an expiration date on the affiliate tracking cookie, and sometimes a very short term one, and many have a variety of ways of overwriting the affiliate's link with the program's own code if the surfer comes back directly via typing the url of the paysite.

I don't have a way to check the expiration of your tracking cookies since I don't have an account yet, so please let me/us know how long the cookie lives if it's not overwritten by another affiliate's cookie.

Thanks!

Yea I have brought that up and it is on the list to be fixed, however I didn't think it was as high of priority than some of the other stuff I've had the designers working on, but we will have a new sites page very soon.

Ours shouldn't expire unless it's over written by another affiliate. I look at affiliates as partners and to me that's just a cheap way to screw them and being I'm also an affiliate to many programs I wouldn't want to be treated that way.

@ Wizzo |thumb

It seems a lot of sponsors use the 10-day "default" NATS cookie these days (even some not using NATS). When you find a program that leaves the cookie to die on its own, that's one worth spending some time promoting.

I went to double check ours after the last post to make sure it wasn't overlooked with my 1st action at Smartbucks, which was switching to NATS. I actually lied ours will expire but its set right now at 99999999999 seconds, so that comes out to like 3100+years which I'm going to assume when it expires the Internet and us both will be ancient history... |loony|

Very high. There is no point in anyone sending traffic if your tour won't convert. And if you appear to be afraid to show your tour, any WM looking at your site will assume it is a crap converter. Worse, they will also assume that you know it is a crap converter and are don't care enough to correct it. Think about it from our point of view. If your living depended on sponsors making sales, and you came across one whose attitude appears to be "Yeah, we are shit at selling, we know our affiliates will be better off elsewhere, but we want them to send us their traffic, so let's try and hide the facts from them to trick them into promoting us."

If I were you (assuming your tours are not crap) I'd make this your number one priority. Not only are the only affiliates you are liable to get newbies, with little idea how to create traffic; but more importantly people will look at your site, form an opinion from it as it is, and talk about it to other WMs. Remember a bad reputation is hard to shift once achieved.

I'd also strongly recommend you put your advertising (to WMs) on hold (including things like sig links) until this is fixed, because at the moment you are paying good money to get WMs to put you on their "never use" lists.

JK 2010-07-26 02:21 AM

Clicking on your sig link gives me the following error:

A Problem has been Encountered

Expiry date cannot have a year greater then 9999
