Nice pics. I've only been to NYC once way back about 16 years ago. We stopped in on our way back from Daytona and took one of those boat tours around Manhatten.
Funny story. We drove down Central Park Drive (I think it's called) and didn't realize that we drove right into the Harlem area. It was actually quite scary. It was getting dusk outside, people had bon fires and were selling shit on the corners. We stopped at a red light and we got some serious looks. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. LOL |
Great pics!
I don't know why but the thought of going to NYC intimidates the hell outta me, but we are supposed to go for a week or so sometime this year. It was good to see your pictures and get see through another tourists eyes just what I'm getting myself into.|scared| |

It's pretty safe for a big city...lots of police around. You'll feel differently when you actually visit...not scared at all, I think. :) |
Ramster.. you were going UP central park.. LMAO.. and even on the toniest of avenues like Park, you'll see homeless laying on steam grates, or sleeping in boxes.. i guess if you are going to be homeless might as well have a good address.
A lot of people when they go to the city, stay in mid town. .but really you need to get out in the neighborhoods, the village, soho, Little Italy, upper west side, Chelsea, to get the real flavor of NY. and most everyone who lives there is more than willing to help out. Police are on horseback, scooters, and cars. I mean you have to be aware of your surroundings.. I'd never walk thru central park at night.. and IF i was a tourist on a visit, i'd avoid the subway at rush hour.. and if you are on the subway..ignore all the "vets, starving artists and crippled" passing thru looking for money.. they probably live better than any of us. and just know that you never have to worry about crossing a street cuz if you hesitate.. the crowd will carry you across. |
