Mobile Redirect For Freesites

Today I got a heretical thought - mobile redirect for free sites! I have no idea, how many mobile visitors came fo freesites. Anyway, freesite as such is not too suitable for mobile user I guess. What do you think about it & would you allow it? Thanks for your opinions!

Cleo 2011-08-15 03:01 PM

When a sponsor offers it I do mobile redirect on sponsor links but I wouldn't do it on free sites.

As far as allowing it I probably wouldn't even notice it unless I did reviews on my iPhone which so far I've never done but speaking of my iPhone I hate mobile redirects on it and much prefer to view the full site on it.

RedCherry 2011-08-15 06:19 PM

I don't have a problem with it, as on my phone a typical free site would be a PITA to view.

But I probably wouldn't go through all that unless you were promoting a sponsor that offered a mobile version of their tour (like pimproll for instance)

Very often I browse through my LL on my itouch, I would be pissed if any fs redirect straight to sponsor, sponsor link redirect on this fs is perfectly fine, probably is taken care of by this sponsor anyway.

I've been looking at responsive design in mainstream for mobiles... just not sure how it would work on a free sites... could be interesting though

Jeremy82 2011-08-16 04:05 AM

Let me test it in my FS network www.xxxdatabank.com for 1 day and tomorow I'll post here how many mobile clicks I recieved (number and percent). I think it is no secret that mobile sites are killing most of "normal" sites. And classic submitting model brings relatively big, but mostly non-productive traffic...

Jeremy82 2011-08-17 05:15 AM

I'm still waiting for the traffic stats for 16th (awstats are updated twice daily). I estimate that mobile traffic in my freesites will be approximately 5%.

so now I have redirect on itouch to the sponsor page, every thumb goes to signup page. Jeremy , have you maybe consider doing CSS redirect, based on device display resolution ? this way you can keep fs and/or gallery structure just with extra stylesheet and mobile friendly

I'm redirecting through .htaccess and I have no time to built special mobile designs for my freesites + many of my sponsors don't have mobile redirect. Here I just checking, who can take them and who not. Then I'll decide, what to do... Imho this feature can bring more people into the freesite game - this is worth to consider...

Well, here are the yesterday's results.
Quote:

Totally 5,5% (116) visitors were sent to mobile sites, 62% (72) of this were unique hits, and 22,5% (26) were join hits!
If this will bring at least 3 joins per month, I'll be totally comfortable with it.

I'm in NO position to reject them really, if majority or better yet all of the places on recip table accepts them, then I will happily do so too.

I didn't realize that you meant redirecting free sites directly to a sponsor using a mobile redirect.

I sometimes, like this coming weekend, use my partner's iPad to do reviews so I'm not going to be happy at all if I start getting redirected to a sponsor and probably would just delete all of your stuff.

[quote=Cleo;508201]I'm not going to be happy at all if I start getting redirected to a sponsor and probably would just delete all of your stuff./QUOTE] That's 1st vote strictly against this idea. I still think we should consider this as a benefit for FS submitter and perhaps we should be more tolerant, don't you think?

Mobile redirects work on sponsor links because the surfer expects a paysite and still gets one it's just a mobile version of the paysite.

Redirecting a free site to a mobile paysite doesn't work because the surfer expects free samples not a paysite so the only thing you end up with is a pissed off surfer.

I don't think this does not work, because I got 1 "join attempt" yesterday from it (my average: 5 "join attempts" = 1 sign up). Another question is, that those 5% mobile visitors should be little bit pissed, what's almost true. In the other side, do you really think, that mobile visitors as such are browsing link lists and consciously browsing freesites for getting free porn? ...

Jeremy82 2011-08-18 10:52 AM

Anyway, I'll probably turn it off, but I'd like to hear more opinions from LL owners, especially from those prominent ones :) ...

Free sites look just fine on my iPhone or iPad and I can surf the site without any issues other than not being able to watch some movies if they aren't in a format that is supported by my device. Don't see any reason why I would want to slam someone with paysite redirect instead.

Cleo 2011-08-18 03:02 PM

I just realized that you have submitting regular free sites under mobile porn category and doing a redirect on the free sites to a sponsor.

If you want to do real mobile porn stuff that is fine but can't submit non mobile stuff to me as mobile and then do redirects.

Why the fuck would a porn for woman's free site redirect to a ExGirlFriend Sluts site?

If the redirects aren't gone be tomorrow I'm deleting all of your stuff.

Jeremy82 2011-08-18 06:10 PM

I've turn it off... Free sites mobile redirecting isn't probably the best way how get mobile sign ups...

Which site do you mean? My "porn for woman" domain "top porn for woman" was never redirected...

Unfortunately that was my formal mistake, sorry for it. I never wanted to send any of my stuff to this category consciously ...

Cleo 2011-08-18 06:26 PM

This one did this morning when I was checking your sites on an iPad.
http://www.toppornforwomen.com/free/04-29-2011/

Non of your sites are redirecting now so I guess you took off the redirect.
