Sick of reciprocals to dead or cheating TGP
Hey,
Are there any other TGP owners that are sick of people submitting galleries with recips to sites that are crappy? People put my recip link on their gallery along with other sites that have nothing but links that lead to 404s, sponsor galleries, traffic trades (to other crappy sites) or haven't been updated in years. Then people complain when you don't send them 1000's of hits. How can an honest TGP send you traffic when all you do is help those crappy sites siphon the surfers away or leave them with a bad taste in their mouth towards TGP. Remember that every time you submit to one of those types of sites you are casting a vote that you support their bull$hit. Just some rantings from a frustrated webmaster. Thanks for listening. Peace |
It's been a while since I heard this one.
Must be much worse now - I exect there are hundreds of zombie TGPs out there nowadays. And everyone is using the standard set of recips in their submiiter - which probably hasnt been updated in a year. A long, long year. |
aawww crap! Hope that wasn't one from us! We submitted to you recently but are new and may have made mistakes...sorry if we screwed up

Most of the newer TGPs don't take submitted galleries, and with many older TGPs gone or dying on the vine the number of productive TGPs that accept submitted galleries is way down. The other change I've seen over the years is a shift in submitters, to mostly non-US webmasters. Many are using as much automation as they can, in order to submit more galleries. It makes for alot of mediocre and poor quality galleries.
Three of my seven TGPs don't take submitted galleries, three others are partner only, and just one is open submit. Even on the TGPs where I take submitted galleries about 75% of the galleries listed are my own, either sponsor hosted or galleries I've built myself. I'm up 20% YTD after two break even years, but I do realize I'm an exception and that most TGP owners are down significantly over the last few years. There's still money to be made, but these days it's much harder staying ahead of the curve. |
Being real new in this game have been sitting here reading and learning this industry as well as tying in what I have learned in other marketing that I have done. For the TGP I have really thought about not having any recips on them at all just to stop some of the things that you talk about but curious on if that would lower the amount of submitters since it has seemed from what I have seen that this industry can be so against change from the status quo.

as a fellow newbie email me nick at vine-garstgp.com pls cheers |
I blame uneducated/lazy people using auto-submit software.
|
Greenie how can you tell if the submitter is using an auto submit program? I haven't gottten to that part of my education is it just knowing how the program works that you can tell or can the script programs catch that type of thing (like Linkx, TGPx or any of the other programs out there).
|
rabidwolf - that's beyond me, I let my tech guy worry about that :) But I will say that I do accept them if you're a trusted submitter.
|
adding to list of things rabidwolf wants-tech guy...but honestly thank you for the response that's why I like this board because you don't get BS answers like many others that most members talk out of their rear ends to make them look big or "cool".

I have a list of active/quality tgps - and make sure theyre teamed up for recips so active tgps get recipped with other actives ... it seems to work nicely with just a few adjustments/updates now and then - the good ones are pretty steady.
