Ah the days of 6 sec low res vids and designing for 800x600.

Just remembering.

I remember working only a few hours a day and making six figures a year.

I'm doing four 20 second mpg vids these days on galleries. I'm thinking of switching to embedded vids using JW Player so that they will also play on mobile devices.

What's everyone using these days?
WMV, MPG, MP4, Flash,

HowlingWulf 2011-10-11 06:06 PM

I still do just pic galleries.

dunc 2011-10-11 06:44 PM

I was just going to say that I am sticking to pics this year.

Most of my adult has dropped horribly - so its time to test new things.

Plus its a time v rewards problem and pics are 200 times easier for me

Me too!

Cleo 2011-10-11 10:21 PM

I'm doing about an equal amount of both.

What is the reasoning of doing pic only galleries?

dunc 2011-10-12 12:37 AM

So punters can make up their own fantasy, get excited and upgrade for the videos... there was a thread or it was on the Radio show, and I made a mental note of it :)

Same here, I'm pic only if I'm building it, and as dunc sez, it's a time vs reward thing.

I can't imagine profiting from just pic gals, but pics are very important

I was using the m4v extension until I found out that non iOS devices didn't know how to handle it so switched to the mp4 extension since it works on iOS devices and non iOS devices. It's the same file, just a different extension.

I've always stayed away from wmv because it can't be protected against hotlinking.

Interesting, I'm glad you told me, I haven't noticed anything in my stats yet but saw some mobile devices in my tube logs today, I'll have to look deeper. You're right, same wrapper...

Personally I think the F4V file best for quality, though I'm normally unwilling to use it due to it being a larger file size. There is a way to bring the size down, but I haven't done the math yet. If anyone knows those figures I'd be grateful for that info. It's likely however based on what you've said, there will be a conflict with non iOS devices as well. Safest certainly is the flv...

Cleo, what program do you use to encode your mp4 files?

I'm using Episode version 5.3.2. There is a newer version out but I'm still using the older version.
