Google & Privacy issues

Soon, of all goes to plan, Google are going to be mining enorous amounts of data from its users...

Google Tool Bar - feeds back information about usage to Google

Google Cookie - New personalised results drop a cookie on your machine to save your profile.

Google Mail - Gmail plans unvieled yesterday stated that thy would beoffering contextual ads on your mail pages. Surely they will have to spider through your mail in order to serve up appropriate advertisements to your mail. Granted - great marketing but a serious privacy issue.

Of course they will say it is in the aid of gaining better results, personalising them and providing themes but with their storage and processing power they could wield enormous power.

What do you think?

The privacy issue they get around by having you agree to their terms and conditions - most people don't read them - and don't care. MSN is doing the same thing, except that their tracking will be right in the browser with their integrated search, and I bet very few people will even electronically sign the privacy terms when they buy a new machine with pre-loaded browsers :)

if anyone has problems with their privacy - I'm sure the answer will be - don't surf then :)
