".XXX domains will be made available to registrars at a substantially discounted wholesale price of $7.85, which is the current wholesale price of a .com. ICM will run similar price promotions in future years as well," Manwin said.

"Furthermore, ICM has agreed to contribute $2 for every new .XXX domain name registration created after April 30. The monthly contribution will be made to a fund designated by Manwin to support the adult entertainment industry. These funds are in addition to ICM's contributions to IFFOR.".....

Why do I have the feeling this is a bad thing?

I read that over there earlier today. All I thought was wow those suckers that paid all that money for a xxx domain.

My concern is that now we're all going to be flooded with .xxx domains - and I for one still do NOT like the idea of using them :(

I just think they are dumb, especially back when they were really expensive.

Sometime ago I did try promoting shemale.xxx just to see if it magically converted better than other domains. Pushed a bunch of traffic to it that normally converts and got zero sales.

I will admit that I did register greenguy.xxx but I never went any further than that. I just wanted to have it.

I was talking to someone on the same course as me who has registered a domain name for his film company, well in advance of trying to get funding for his (mainstream) films. He tells me he bought the .xxx version as well and felt pressurised into it simply to stop porn companies producing adult versions of his more successful films and using an .xxx domain with the same name as his film company to promote them.

Any fear that the .xxx domain will be required for all adult sites?

Probably because ICM AND Manwin are involved. Seems like a calculated ploy to flog a dead horse before all the new tlds start rolling out.

That'd never be enforceable.

So does this mean the low price is only for this month and goes back to 'normal' after?

.xxx would ad could never happen. There are 1000's of ISPs and endless hosts, there's no way to enforce it as Greenie said.

Manwin settling means the asshats that started .xxx who got rich because Penn State, Coca-Cola and all the other companies registered $200 domains won't be getting more rich. Fuck .xxx ! Definitely a win for all the webmasters out there. $100-$200 domain names is utterly ridiculous!

JAI-LING 2013-05-02 11:19 PM

Special price ends the end of May or so I am reading.
