Help I'm ethnically challenged
Some months ago I ended up with some Asian content so I started doing what anybody in this business does and started promoting Asian porn. I was surprised that it converts pretty decent so I've been doing more Asian stuff.
Problem is I see categories of for Japanese, Korean, Chinese, etc., but I can't tell the difference what is what when I look at the content so I'm stuck just picking the safe choice of Asian. Actually I had the same problem when I lived in San Francisco and learned just to stick with using Asian so as not to upset or insult anyone. Anyway how do others handle picking the correct sub category? |
I haven't made too many Asian sites/galleries, but each time I did the places I submitted to had the generic "Asian" category.
My guess from looking at a few Asian paysites is that a safe bet would be Japanese. |
When I lived in San Francisco I had a lot of Asian friends and learned real fast that referring to someone who was Chinese as Japanese or the other way around was like real insulting to them. I do know that other Asians can tell the difference when looking at the models.
Actually I have no idea who has been buying these memberships but I would guess it is white men with an Asian fetish and not other Asians so it wouldn't make any difference, but still… Maybe I should just go back to doing tranny porn at least that was easier. :D |
No. There's no definitive way to tell. Not even for other Asians.
They may be able to tell from body language, etc...but not from pictures. There's also some difference in Northern/Southern Asian countries as far as general looks...lighter/darker skin. But it would be like a person said they could tell the difference between girls from Germany, Denmark and Sweden. There is a split on usenet for girls from the Philippines and India....that's about it. I'm an Asianphile, btw. :) http://education.yahoo.com/reference...ap/big/17.html There is just no mystical exact difference between a Japanese girl and a Chinese girl. Neither would admit it, but that's just the way it goes. Oh, and yeah I think there are some 'white guys' though small in number can never get enough Asian content. Due to history various Asian people will not like other asian people. ya know- wars and stuff. :( My fiancee' says that many Thai's do not recognize her as a Thai, but some other Asian country. But she is indeed 100% Thai. Koreans are discriminated against in Japan if not outright, then in more subtle ways. Hmm. Funny story as an aside: In Japan I was in some club and it has a membership newsletter that is mailed out with everyone's contact info. I get a call on my cell from a girl who just liked my name. I told her the only place I had no desire to go to was Korea. Well, ya guessed it- she was Korean. Ooops. :D |
Having lived in the far east and Hawaii it's pretty easy for me to tell the difference between what are commonly called "Asians" here.

Surfn,
So if there was a line up of models with no ethnic dress or clues to speak of...just naked models in a line-up you'd be able to tell Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Laotian, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Thai, Singaporian (?), and Malaysian apart? |popcorn

Not knowing the difference between Asian peoples is the same as them saying all white people look the same. |
I have to agree with Surfin on this. I'm pretty much as whitebread Scotish/American as they come but there are as many different nuances to each Asian and South Pacific brand of people as their are southern dialects in the US.
I lived in Japan (ok, it was Okinawa - Disney for the Japanese) for a year and was amazed at how diverse the people are there. Okinawa is NOT a Japanese island at it's root. It's Polonesian (sp?). Yes, for many hundreds of years the Japanese and Chinese invaded this 68mile long island and tortured and killed the inhabitants but the true Okinawans are not of "Asian" decent - they are closer to being the brothers and sisters of the Phillipinos. Now, Korean vs Vietnamese vs Japanese vs Chinese vs Thai vs Whatever.... There is a stricking physical difference between these people and their cultures. Can I pinpoint each one all the time? No, but I do see the differences. The eyes, the cheeks, the mouth, the nose - there are distinct nuances that differentiate each and every one of us. Anyone that lumps people into a given stereotype just isn't looking. And that's my two cents. |buddy
Cleo, it gets worse when you come to see that there are at least 3 chinese types - mainland, honk kong, and singapour.
drop me an email, I have a good sample page for you if you need it. About 25 models all identified. Alex |
Good point RA! I didn't even consider the various dialects (is that the right term?) of the chinese people. Oh my, we're on the road to a full tutorial ain't we?!
|
I can tell when models are japanese. They are those who are tied up or has Donald Duck suit. |bananna|
Seriously, it's hard to tell from picture, but in real life I think I can tell if woman is Thai. We have spent there 6 weeks, and I never forget the way they speak. Must be because they were speaking all the time...no silence moment in Thailand. |
I have to agree with Surfn.
We tend to look for western feautures though. We tend to recognice people and cluster them by things as haircolor, eyecolor, lenght, bodycolor. When you look for this features you see only resemblences or very small differences. So you have to look for other features like cheekbones, bodybuild, position of the eyes, teeth, noseconfiguration. I can not tell them all apart cause there are many countries there but I think I have a good shot at telling if a girl is a Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian or Korean... Browse through the catagories and you will spot things when looking for other bodyfeatures... |
I can understand why they'd be upset - if someone called me a Canadian I'd probably beat the shit out of them :D

I guess it is the same with most races. I can what flavor of Spanish someone is most of the time, but I'm part Spanish and grew up with Spanish people. I don't think a lot of white folks could tell the difference between say Columbine and Cuban, but I usually can. We are all going to end up the color of mocha anyway. LOL |
There are very physical differences in the people in Asia because the countries aren't huge melting pots like the US. The difference are easy to spot once you get the hang of it even though I'm only familiar with a few countries. Start with picking the Japanese models. They're the easiest to spot becasue they're some of the most unique people in the entire world. Afterall, they're an island nation that was never invaded by another country and hence no outside physical influences.

I have seen them come in groups of up to twenty and they go straight for the girls with dyed blonde hair cut a deal and there headed up the stairs, No getting to know each other, or shopping around for a better deal or a better looking girl. Just Wam Bam Thank You Mam |
Hmm. I'm skeptical of all you's. :)
What I was stating is that I've seen enough variation within the same country that it would be tough to tell which country they are from. You folks would be able to peg my wife to be as 100% Thai straight away: http://www.silkyerotica.com/tmp/nok.jpg ? Here's my friends wife who is also 100% Thai: http://www.silkyerotica.com/tmp/lee.jpg They look very different to me, yet they are both 100% Thai. http://www.alllooksame.com/ Take the test and tell me how you do. This is just 3 nationalities. |
I got 11 right|bananna|

Yeah I think many of us could use a visual guild of how to tell one Asian group from another.
I managed to insult the Vietnamese man fixing my TV a few months ago without meaning to. He was here realigning the video on my big screen TV and it was pretty time consuming so we started talking and he mentioned that he learned to fix TVs back in Vietnam so I asked him if he was from the north or south. Seemed like a fair question to me, but he was like I'm from the south can't you tell. Well no actually, in fact I didn't even know he was Vietnamese until he told me. Turned out that what I thought was a community of Korean is a community of Vietnamese. Like I said earlier I learned when I was young just to say Asian so as to be safe, but now I find myself marketing naked pics of Asians. Actually after reading through this thread I think I'm giving up trying and just sticking with saying Asian. :D |
LOL i have nothing to add, i missread the title of this thread as "help i am ethically challenged" |jester|
very intersting discussion tho :) |

hehe. Yeah. Asian works all the time and offends few. ;) |
I wonder what kind of submits these TGPs that have sub niches for Asian get?
I do have a sudden craving for Thai food, one of my favorite foods for dinning out. Actually I like the Thai food that has peanuts used in cooking. I found out that there is another part of Thailand that doesn't use peanuts that I don't care for as much. In fact I was told that Thai food that uses peanuts is not real Thai food. All I know is there is a lot of Thai restaurants where I live and they are owned by people from Thailand… errr I mean Asia. :D |
I'm not a fan of most Thai food. :(
I'm a spice pussy. Can't take my spices like a real man. :( I barely tolerated a meal once sweatin' and taking it very seriously- drinking a huge swig of water after every bite. After I was finished I learned the chef used a chilli sause packaged for Thai KIDS. He showed me the packet...it was like for a baby. :D |bananna
