Found this free linkchecker script

was surfin and came across this free link checker script for those that dont have one built into your script or ya just wanna check your own free sites.

http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html

I havent installed it yet, so I cannot say whether its good or not but it sounds simple enough to install and use.

If you do try it post your experience here for others.

It seems to do the job pretty good.
Although I had several sites on the same domains that timed out. But when I checked them they popped up in a second. Haven't found where I can set the timeout time yet.

Edit: The above is when I tried it on my linklist with thousands of links, on free sites it does a perfect job :)

Can I configure the timeout?
Enter the number of seconds in the [Options] segment in XENU.INI, e.g. as timeout=120. The default value is 60. Note that this isn't "perfect". Microsoft Windows has a bug so that the timeout can't be set the way it should. I am using a workaround advice from Microsoft. However I have observed that it doesn't work if the timeout "hits" while trying to find out if a host name exists.
Alternatively, try this:

Start the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE)
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ InternetSettings
Select New > DWORD from the Edit menu
Call it ReceiveTimeout with a value of *1000
(The "hidden" default is 300000, i.e. five minutes, which is too long)
Restart your system

I got an older version of Xenu if you want to try it, let me know. The older version seems to work bettter IMO.

i used it to and had the same timeout problem. so, for this script and a couple of others, i use mozilla.

i spilled soda on my keyboard and for a while, have no caps. i didn't want anyone to think i all of a sudden turned illiterate.

For those that prefer a Fruity computer there is this link checker.

Works really well.

Emerald 2004-04-14 01:30 PM

Hmm I just ran it and had no timeout problems at all and I didnt reconfigure the script cuz I'm a script dummy.

It just went thru over 7000 links in about 10 minutes.

Xenu is one of the greatest pieces of true freeware for windows ever written, and it belongs in every webmasters toolkit.

And it has a cool name, with hidden meaning. ;-}

Only thing with Xenu is that it doesn't obey robots.txt unless that has changed with newer versions.

It's on his Future features List:

Another one for the bookmarks :)

Question about these linkcheckers:
If they visit your sponsorlinks does that get counted by the sponsor as a hit?
