Wednesday November 11th (aka Veteran's Day & Much, Much More)

Morning! http://www.link-o-rama.com/greenguy/...emorialguy.gif

Had a fucked up day yesterday. It started out normal, with me working, watching the new Terminator movie (which was AWESOME!) and then taking a nap. Woke up to find out that my youngest step-daughter may need a kidney transplant :( She's had issues with them for years, and they were controlling it with meds, but he latest test results showed that her kidneys were only operating at 18% :( So, now there's more tests to see if anything else can be done before we ask everyone in the family to go get tested to see if anyone is a match. It breaks my heart :(

Then, our fucktard monkey of a State Attorney General, Eric Schneiderman, decided that 2 of the Daily Fantasy Sports websites - Fan Duel & Draft Kings - fall under the New York State Gambling Laws & sent them a C & D on accepting money from people in the state |angry| The truly f'd up part of this is that there are 15+ other Daily Fantasy Sports websites that operate in NY - including Yahoo! - that can still operate, as he's only going after the 2 big ones. I don't think anyone on here lives in NY, but if you have a friend that does, please ask them to go here:
Protect Daily Fantasy Sports In New York
That page has info on what's going on, as well as how to auto-submit a pre-made message to NYS Gov Cuomo & NYS Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

...and finally, my lil guy Rufus Pip is having some trouble with one of his hind legs. He's been walking around with it up in the air, as if it hurts to walk on it, but he seems fine if you pick him up & move the leg around - you'd think he's bark or bite or get pissed off, but he could care less that you're tugging & wiggling around his leg. So, to the vet we go...

Greenie, that is a really fucked up day. :(

I have a friend that has been on the kidney donor list for some time. They did this really odd surgery on his arm bringing a bunch of blood vessels together to make one big one so that it is easier for him to do dialysis.

Went bowling last night in a toy drive for tots. Had a really good time.

Just my usual day of work and whatever planned for today before attending a business networking Meetup this evening.

Rufus Pip Update: The vet thinks he somehow tore his Cranial Cruciate Ligament (the dog version of our ACL) and she discovered that he has a slight heart murmur :( So she took some xrays, gave us some anti-inflammatory meds for his knee, and now we have to call the specialists at the vet hospital. He'll be 10 in March, so I doubt we're gonna do any surgery on his knee, and my fingers are crossed we can find a reasonable way to deal with his heart. The hits just keep on coming! |banghead|

Sorry to hear about your step daughter and about Pip. My sympathies to them and you.

If it is any help, let me pass on what I have been told about the matter:

Kidney transplants are a routine operation nowadays. There is nothing to worry about provided you can find a kidney donor. That is usually the hard part, but if the family is prepared to rally round and "supply" one, you don't even have that problem. It may seem scary, and it is a major operation, but it is not one to be afraid of. Kidney transplants are safe and successful.
