NETSKY.V new virus especially tricky
Many should already know this but there's a new netsky variant which is especially tricky, it can load a virus onto your machine apparently just by viewing an email in html mode.
It's not an attachment, it's a loader of some kind, and it's been showing up in my inbox. 31k, and it's very interesting looking when you view it in a text viewer You can defend yourself by setting your prefs to only view email in text mode. watch out, it comes as a letter with a subject like "Gateway refused connection". Here's a bit of a news clip --------------------------------- Netsky-V worm slithers without email attachment, Sophos reports No need to double-click to be infected by Netsky-V Sophos researchers have warned customers to ensure their computers are properly patched against known Microsoft security vulnerabilities as the W32/Netsky-V worm spreads without using email attachments. Whereas other widespread versions of the Netsky worm have infected users by tempting them to double-click on an email attachment, W32/Netsky-V exploits security loopholes in Microsoft's software that mean users can be hit just by reading an email. Emails containing the exploit attempt to download a copy of the worm from another user's computer. |
Yeah I started getting that a day or so ago. |angry|
Non of this affects my platform, but with all the crap like this that I get I end up missing mails that I need to read. |
What is so rediculous and sad is according to a PCWorld article:
http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,115725,00.asp "Since the vulnerabilities used are both more than a year old, any PC with up-to-date patches will not be affected." |pissed| I haven't gotten this one yet...I don't think. But, come on...people need to update their systems! :sigh: |
