Yes, they sell alcohol both by the bottle and in the bars. You are not supposed to open the bottles though. Something about duty free. I don't think anyone really cares.

When I was younger, we used to go on the ferry to France to load up with cheap beer and wine (really low purchase tax on alcohol in France - really high purchase tax on alcohol in Britain - so it is worth the cost of a ferry ticket once every few months if you can carry back several month's worth of booze with you). Always opened one case of beer on the boat back, and got absolutely hammered by the time we reached England.
Sometimes the guy driving us all back home from the ferry terminal got drunk too, which made for an interesting journey!
