Help With Uploading To Tube/Clip Sites
A coworker asked if I knew of a way to speed up the process of uploading movies to tube & clip sites. The movies files that she's uploading by hand are from the members area of our sites, so she's been downloading them to her machine & then uploading them to the sites. Each site does have an option where you can simply put the URL of the movie in & it will upload it for you, but since they're in the members area, that don't work.
I did try the old UN/PW in the URL trick: http://username:password@example.com/members/movie.mp4 But that no longer works with these fancy new password forms. One option that did come to mind would be to copy the movie to an unprotected directory on the domain, but: A: That'd eat up a lot of hard drive space B: I don't think you can copy & paste a file via FTP and I really don't want to have to bother the host every time we upload a new scene. Can anyone thing of other options? Thanks! |shake| |
I dont know of a universally working method - the http://user:pass@url.com isnt supported in most places as it is insecure...
Some hosts have variations of scripts allowing it, like https://support.cloudinary.com/hc/en...cted-resources - but if that works with the upload scripts of the individual tubes is a different thing - i doubt it. I think putting them in an unprotected place is the most likely solution: A) No, doesnt have to take much space. The tube doesn't feed from the location generally (the hun does for instance, but there they're temporary) - so you can clean them out before they eat too much space B) You can actually copy/paste on ftp (depending on the client, sometimes it needs enabling in the settings) - but the easier way would probably be to simply start an upload to both the members and the unprotected directory simultaneously whenever wanting new stuff up there |

As far as the simultaneous upload, we upload a 4k video for each scene, but we want to use the 1080p version that the CMS makes on the tubes & clip sites (plus I have them upload to a directory in the root & then I move everything around because I'm anal & don't want them mucking around in the members directory lol) |

Hmmm. You make my brain ache lol
For copy/paste: I use WSFTP - its a bit pesky though (I think it actually fakes copy/pasting and actually downs/ups in the process), don't think filezilla supports it You could probably set up an auto-purge on the folder, and maybe some kind of automation on generation from Elevated to the unprotected folder ... but itd require some scripting about & not necessarily obstacle free .... but that's kind of the options to avoid your "I don't want to´s" as I don't think there's a way to make the password-protected file accessible/acceptable to the upload scripts. Unless you want to swap from using an Elevated generated file on tubes to the original 4k - then the original upload location could be an unprotected folder usable for both... Honestly - the easiest way probably is to do it manually (and ensure those doing it have a healthy fiber line with good upload speed). I have some 25-50 tubes (if including the low traffic ones or not) with Content Partner programs and/or monetized premiums - less, maybe 10 max, if only doing those really doing anything, on a fast connection that should be doable in 2-3 upload batches. I'm going to eventually ask Mojo what their opinion is on all this, but I thought I'd ask here 1st in case there's a "Why didn't I think of that?! |facepalm|" solution |thumb |
