Shrinking recips - a bad idea?

Hi there, I'm wondering if shrinking recips so they all match in size is a bad idea. Here's an example:

http://www.hentaiordie.com/llrecipexample.htm

Some look a little jagged, i might have to try text links for those.

Is it customary for niche link lists to have 100x40 banners? I find it odd all the hentai banners are that size, while TGP and LL banners vary widely.

Thanks,

- uterpie

for TGP galleries, it doesnt bother me at all. i really hate when some dork uses my small recip next to a giant recip from some next to unknown site.

so ya, make em all the same size...

Surfn 2004-05-06 03:20 AM

They look ok to me.

DangerDave 2004-05-06 04:33 AM

Instant delete here :(

... and the same if your squash my friends recips

That's way too small for me.

I don't mind resizing the recips a bit to make them fit the page, but that's too much.

Cleo 2004-05-06 08:29 AM

Would you want me to shrink your listing into little tiny text?

What DD and Greenguy said.

I'm sorry, my apologies, I did not mean any offense by shrinking the recips. |peace| My intention was only to try to make it look good by making them all the same size.

I suppose my real problem is this... I am trying to get my TGP at http://www.hentaiordie.com/ listed in the TGP section of your multiniche LLs. (I want to delete the bottom 2 rows of hentai niche LL recips, and put 2 rows of multiniche LL recips at the top).

I did not see any rules for submitting TGPs to LLs, and I'm sort of a newbie so I don't know the standard protocol for submitting TGPs. I looked around, some listed TGPs had recips, most didn't, I didn't see a pattern or any rhyme or reason. I'm just trying to find an agreeable solution with the LL owners if I can. If I'm wasting my time because there are too many recips on my TGP already or because the TGP is not good enough to be listed, please let me know!

Thanks so much for your help,

- uterpie

Usually TGPs do traffic trades either with hard links or through traffic scripts. Usually it is just a table with simple links like near the top of this TGP page.

uterpie 2004-05-06 08:50 PM

Thanks Cleo. I have chosen not to use traffic trading scripts, I've gone the hard link route so far. But I am not big enough to do either with large LLs like yours. Instead, most the LLs on the page I linked to above have a section where they list TGPs just like they would a free site. Here are some examples:

http://www.richards-realm.com/links/others.phtml
http://www.link-o-rama.com/greenguy/anime.htm
http://www.dangerdave.com.au/adult-l...Ps/index.shtml

Or am I misunderstanding what's going on here?

uterpie 2004-05-06 09:14 PM

Cleo, this is your site, right? http://cleos-porn-links.com/adult-li...me_toons.shtml

There seem to be TGPs listed there too... or are these all "fake" TGPs from your sponsors? I have a few of those listed on my TGP.

Thanks!

Cleo 2004-05-06 09:19 PM

They may be fake tgps or they may be sponsor stuff or a private deal that I made with someone that I know really well.

uterpie 2004-05-06 09:57 PM

So submitting TGPs to Link Lists just does not happen in the real world? I was told it did. Or do people just submit and never notice they don't get listed? I am very confused.

I updated my recip table at http://www.hentaiordie.com/llrecipexample.htm
It looks pretty ugly, and I can only fit 6 on instead of 10, but will it do? Or is it too many recips? Or do TGPs even need recips to get listed at LLs? Or do LLs even list TGP submissions in the first place? Sorry for all the questions, it just doesn't make sense to me! I've heard so many different things, like in this thread:
http://www.greenguysboard.com/board/...=&postid=56202

Cleo 2004-05-06 10:21 PM

All link lists are different. I only trade through a top referral script, but others list other lists like a TGP.

The recips look fine, you left them the way the link list owners designed them.

RE : "So submitting TGPs to Link Lists just does not happen in the real world?"
There are plenty of LLs that accept TGP sites, but you have to look for them as the majority don't. I got an e-mail to my WM site a few months ago from someone who said that none of them accepted TGPs, so I did some research and found that about 75% do not accept TGP sites, but that still leaves 25% that do. The best way to find them is to go to a good link list site and follow all the links on it in turn. This will usually get you to a page with that site's recips, which you can follow to find the link lists he uses. When you run out of sites on the original link list, go to sites on the link lists you have found, and so on.

RE :"'sorry, my apologies, I did not mean any offense by shrinking the recips."
I don't think you need to apologize, you did the right thing, you asked first and got told it was a bad idea. Some of the replies may have been a little short but I don't think anyone was condemning you. It is always best to ask if you are not sure if something is acceptable.

Greenguy 2004-05-07 08:22 AM

uterpie - I do list TGP's & Link Lists in the "otherlists" section of each category page, but my rules do still appy (except for the # of pics & ads)

One thing I did see on your site that would esclude you for getting listed with me is the new windows - I don't allow them :(

I'm not going to suggest that you change around your entire site to fit my rules, because that's a lot of work for what will amount to not alot of traffic :(

But it is up to you, as it is your site :)

stev0 2004-05-07 12:36 PM

do you really need 25 recips on that page? lots of LL's allow doorways, Why not make a couple and submit the doorways to the ones that allow them, and use the main index.html for the ones that don't?

uterpie 2004-05-07 04:46 PM

stev0,

I removed 2 rows last night as planned, now I have 18. Still a bit, but these are already linking to my site, and provide targeted traffic, so they will stay. Thanks for the great idea! When submitting free sites I use only 9 recips and make 4 mirrors, I will try making a few mirrors of my domain root and submitting it. It won't be much work so no big deal if I get small returns.

Greenguy, |waves|

Thanks a ton man, you cleared up a lot for me. I bet yours is the de facto standard: LLs that list TGPs expect them to follow the reasonable free site rules. I'm real attached to opening in new window.

Thanks a lot all you guys!

uterpie -
I'm not sure what you have against a traffic script on your TGP site. I did it your way for years, and prefer the traffic script much more. Keeps everything honest, and rewards trades that have a better productivity (how many links each of their hits clicked). There are tons out there, but I use this free one because it doesn't steal any of my traffic (most free ones take 1%):

I don't have much faith in the quality of traded traffic. I also am not full time (yet), and I have heard that tuning trades and babysitting them and dealing with cheaters can be time consuming. I need to use my time to make sites. I do plan to experiment with a trade script soon on www.allanimeporn.com. I have seen awgtrade before, thanks for letting me know your opinion. I had filed it in the "too good to be true" category as far as free scripts went.

tat2jr 2004-05-07 09:12 PM

nah, it's not too good to be true. I raised my uniques from 1k a day to 2k a day in about a week. It went as high as 3k a day, but I'm going to have to pump some more traffic thru it to sustain that. Been making $10/day off it. I just set it and leave it alone (got a TGP script that rotates my sponsor hosted galleries too - it was only $25).... let me get that address for your bookmarks....

SomeCreep 2004-05-10 03:05 AM

Dont resize recips. There are too many good submissions with normal sized recips that will take precedence and get listed instead of yours.

When reviewing free sites everyday, it only takes one little thing to click delete and move on the next submission.

uterpie 2004-05-10 09:13 PM

I agree, SomeCreep. For free sites and galleries, I wouldn't DREAM of resizing recips. But these shrunken recips were going to be for my TGPs... I had seen some TGPs listed on LLs that didn't have ANY recips... so I wondered... wouldn't having shrunken ones on there be better than none at all?

Then I learned that the TGPs listed on LLs don't get there by submission, the same way free sites do... in most cases they are placed there by the LL owner for a strategic reason. I am not strategic for them. Hence its not worth the trouble for either of us for me to continue as far as I can tell.

kveldulv 2004-05-10 11:34 PM

I will sometimes resize recip images to lower filesize and/or match the dimensions of other recips.

Some sites have enormous recips, 240 x 120, 25 kB monstrocities.

If you're unsure what to do for a particular site, go have a look at the galleries that are getting listed and see what they do.

Greenguy 2004-05-11 08:29 AM

kveldulv - I think most of this thread is about resizing text/table recips - when you start messing around with images recips, you run the chance of really fucking things up IMHO.
