"free" keyword?

when your going after SE words/phrases do you target phrases with the word free in them? i have been passing them up and not optimizing for them BUT i am missing out on a lot of potential traffic. how does everyone feel about surfers who type in "free" when they are searching for something?

My thinking has always been how do you sell something to someone looking for free stuff? Unless you plan to jerk them around which I don't.

I haven't bought a domain name with the word "free" in it for a while, 20 months at least.

But I have plenty of "free" keyword domains, and it isn't that difficult to extract an acceptable amount of money from that traffic.

But, I get a better return from work done where "free" keyphrases aren't empahsized. They are there, on the page, but I'd rather have the guy who typed in "facial cumshots" than the guy who types in "free facial cumshots".

So you don't build any free sites or galleries? :D

I do use "free" in my keywords every now & then when I'm building free sites & galleries :)

Sure, they are marketing tools which make no claims of free anything.

That's one of the reasons I'm switching over to PPJ, those damn cheap/free trials don't convert worth a crap either. I much prefer to extol the virtues of a site that will cost a few bucks and have the surfer find it there at that price, like it, and join and be satisfied and then tell his friends where he found it :D

If they are specifically looking for "free", just build sites that link to "free to join" stuff. $1 from a surfer is better than nothing from a surfer.

Free in my mind just means that they haven't been convinced to buy stuff yet... you can do it! :-)

I see a direct correlation between the number of dailly signups from a FPA I have on the front of **************.com and my position for the search term "free porn" .. when I am in the top 3 or 4 that one adspot makes at least twice as many sales as when I fall below that... I have seen the pattern consistently for 2 years or more as I have jumped about between #1 and about #12... "free" searchers pay my bills... so please dont take my spot |raygun|
