Maybe system restore would help?

go to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.

You may have damaged, but repairable files.
To scan for bad files:
Go to start -- Run, type CMD and press enter.
Type SFC /SCANNOW and press enter... It may solve your problem.

Maybe you have to change the settings to make it look like XP?

Start -> Settings -> Taskbar and Start menu

just a wild guess :)

I wish I had seen this earlier you could have restored to a date earlier than the problem. Say your puter was fine on the 1st and screwed on the 2nd, you could have restored the settings of the 1st.

I have mine set to look just like a Mac.
