Thumbnail Size?
About to begin building free sites for friends and family link lists... trying to make a decision.
I used to go with a max width of 100 on my thumbnails in the past. However, in reviewing sites and such I find that the sites with the bigger thumbnails always look better... sexier... hotter. at least to me. anyone else have that same feeling? Or am I being kinda weird here? also, what sizes do you use? :) I dont care if it looks clean as long as it projects professionalism and results in sales. are bigger thumbnails better performers? ;) |
I try to make my thumbnails at least 125px on the long side. It's easier on the eye in my opinion.

Hi Boogie,
I usually go for 120(W) X 160 (H) or 113 X 150. A lot of people use larger thumb because supposedly it cuts down on bandwidth (less need for surfers to click on them). I don't know about that though, sounds a bit irish to me (no offense to anyone lol). Yeah, big thumbs are sexy. Small thumbs just look cheap and nasty imo. |
Depending on the layout I use 150-170 on the longside.
I tested in the past and bigger thumbs indeed cutted down on the bw. But there was a break-even somewhere around 150. |
I make my thumbs 150 on the long side and have been for 7 years. :)

I have been using at least 150 on the long side as I usually use the gallery pages for tgp submits as well :) the larger tgps seem to like the bigger thumbs
|
I never really thought too much about it until I started really using all the templates that I had laying around. Now I look at home much room I have in the tables for the thumbs & decide how long/wide to make them based on that. IMHO bigger thumbs is always better :)
|
I tend to make mine 125 on the long side with one or two thumbs that are 250 on the long side.

I go 150-160 on the long side and I do believe it cuts down on surfers clicking through to see the larger image.
