Hi guys

I found the site http://www.xxxchurch.com and the sheer ignorance and stupidity of it pissed me off. Add to that the fact it's getting mainstream press publicity, and I had an idea.

I decided to make a parody site of it:
http://www.exexexchurch.com

This site warns of the dangers of church addiction and urges people to give it up and take up masturbation.

It also, funnily enough, has ads for porn on it.

Before I unleash it on the world, I need the sage advice of those on the GG board.

Is the design too similar? I wanted it to be a recognisable parody, but didn't make it exactly the same. Nonetheless, should I tone it down a bit?

Also, I wanted to feature independent, non-standard pro sex porn sites on it - if you have any suggestions, please spam me.

The right to parody is pretty large and pretty absolute - there has been a number of court cases in which parody has been completely supported, and copyright and even trademark claims set aside.

The last time I checked, tho, the exact definitions of what constitutes parody and what is copyrights violation were still hazy, so if they get maniacally pissed they could still try to sue you, at least to scare you off. Lawyers still threaten parody sites altho the case law says parodies always win.

A pretty clever idea, get some of the bigger blogs to link it and you could get bombarded.

Yup, hot idea. As long as you stay on parody, you are pretty much allowed to do what you like (as long as you don't libel / slander anyone).

Get it into blogs, press releases, etc, and you will be off to the races.

The real trick? How do you turn those surfers into cash? You are possibly in line for a real traffic shitkicking.

Thanks for the positive input so far. I've decided to add a page to some hosted galleries, that may inspire any passing surfers to buy and won't cost me much more bandwidth.

In terms of the legal ins and outs... Part of me feels like saying "Screw them, they deserve to have the piss taken" but at the same time I could do without being hunted down by lawyers, whether they have a case or not. So I'd rather err on the side of caution.

But if you guys think it's OK as is... that would be cool.

Fucking awesome man, I had to take down a paysite and redesign due to "religious overtones." Apparently big banks dont like mockery, however since your site is free everything should be cool. As fas as tonig it down I wouldn't I would tone it up, the weirder and more bizarre the more memorable, in my opinion anyway. Our original site was geared more like this TGP gallery:
